Known for its sparkling blue hues and peaceful nature, the Makakola Cichlid is a standout among Malawi cichlids. It grows up to 13 cm and thrives in tanks 120L or larger, especially when kept in small groups or harems.

Unlike aggressive Mbuna species, Lethrinops prefer open sandy areas, where they sift through the substrate in search of food. They get along well with other non-aggressive Malawi cichlids and do best in setups with soft sand, smooth rocks, and good water quality.

Feed a varied omnivorous diet to maintain health and enhance colouration.

Native to Central America, the Vieja argentea is a large, intelligent cichlid known for its metallic body with speckled pearly spots and occasional flashes of red and black in its fins.

It can grow up to 30 cm, so it needs a 300L+ tank with plenty of space and strong filtration. While stunning, this species is also territorial and dominant, so it’s best kept solo, with robust tankmates, or in very large setups with lots of structure and hiding places.
