Est. 2019 Welcome to Fernwood Rabbitry We are a small breeder located in Emerald, Victoria. Our rabbits get daily attention, with fresh water, hay and food is provided for all our rabbits to ensure they are healthy and happy. Due to being a part of our family, they

have exposure to children, other pets and household sounds. *we do not encourage rabbits to be left unsupervised with other pets*

We do have wait lists - these are for families and individuals who have expressed interest and are ready to have one of our Netherlands Dwarfs to be a part of their home. Our Netherland Dwarfs:
From birth they are handled up until pick up, from 10weeks of age. They come with a bag of transition food, home warming toy, their nails pre-trimmed, basic health check, and on going support as needed. For further information please send us a message and we would be happy to answer your interests or questions about our rabbits.

Everything is better with a pop of colour! 🌈🌈🌈

The first bank of a few for the bunnies’s bank upgrades. And of course had to paint with pink 🎨😜

Only fly screen to be attached and some latches left for this bank then we will be having some lucky bunnies moving in from their older banks. ❤️

Special thanks to bunny human Sean for making these, some very happy bunnies to be seen around!🐰

Stay safe out there everyone ❤️

Our bunnies and fur babies left home mid morning today. All stacked sharing carriers and trying to stay cool.

Best thoughts for everyone affected and those still in fire prone areas.

Not long now hopefully🫂

2025 with Fernwood Rabbitry🎉❤️🐇

We started 2025 with a clear intention to further refine our Netherland Dwarf lines, focusing on Himalayan, shaded, and accompanying self varieties. Little did we know this year would be packed with so many new opportunities for growth and learning within our rabbitry.

From welcoming new breeds, seeing some good results at shows, and seeing our Plush Netherland Dwarf project progress far beyond expectations, we are genuinely happy to say that 2025 has been a very good year.

Over the course of the year, we have further streamlined our Netherland Dwarf stock, achieved third-generation Plush Netherland Dwarf carriers, welcomed an army of Jersey Woollies into the stud, and completely fallen head over heels for the Polish breed. It is safe to say we are now a four-breed rabbit stud… something we certainly did not anticipate at the start of the year.

As we look toward 2026, we are feeling open and excited about what the future may hold. We personally see the following goals taking shape:

🐇Netherland Dwarfs: Continued downsizing, with a primary focus on Himalayan-coloured varieties.

🐇Plush Netherland Dwarfs: Ongoing improvement in type, alongside a key goal of producing plush-coated self colours (black, blue, chocolate, and lilac).

🐇Jersey Woollies: Learning and beginning to show this breed officially. We are incredibly excited to have them with us and grateful for the generous support and guidance from breeders across the country. (A favourite breed of Sean’s).

🐇Polish: A breed we have truly come to love, with aspirations to show Himalayan Polish. We are proud of the progress made so far with Ricotta, our Himalayan Polish doe. As well as the support from other breeders guiding us along the way. Especially with our doe Edna as well.

We recognise that plans may change along the way, particularly with Fernwood Rabbitry expecting a change in location in the coming months. However, with bunnies always at the centre of our hearts, you’ll continue to see our rabbits shared and celebrated as we move into 2026. We love being open about their journeys and bringing you along with us.

Here is to the new year! 🍾🎉

With love,
Nikki & Sean (the humans)

A touch late to the party of introductions… but wow! Are we impressed with how well Edna has taken to motherhood!! 🎉❤️😱

Little beans all born on the 19th of Dec, we had Edna and Amari both suprise us with little kittens first thing in the morning.

Edna welcomed 4 healthy Polish kits to the world, and has absolutely been perfect as a mother. Very excited for these babies, all black self too! Looks like the black self bunny party is overshadowing our other colours for now! 🤣❤️

Then we have Amari, she too welcomed 4 beautiful babies to the world. With 2 peanuts and 2 normal kittens. Her two babies were both chocolate self, one of which we have lost. We suspect it got dragged out of the nest after a feeding having still being latched to mum and got cold. Her remaining kitten is staying with Edna and is on track for life. We are very excited for this kit as well as it is our own 3rd generation Plush Netherland Dwarf carrier for the program.

Overall, these kits are doing great. Mumma Edna doing her job textbook like. ❤️

Merry Christmas!!
The bunnies hope you all have a good day tomorrow. 🎄⭐️

Hopefully the bunnies all have a special someone visit during the night. 👀🎅🐇

Most of ours are well behaved…. but we are sure all of them made the nice list. 🤭😜

Here we have Ricotta our special Polish doe posing for our 2025 Christmas. 📷

Just a little reminder to check those cages and hidden corners with the warmer weather ramping up over the next few weeks to months. More bugs means more food and resources for the spiders to feel comfortable and expand their families. 😬

We noticed a recent increase of those lovely black house spiders and found a nest hidden in the corner of Crumbs’ bank. The spiders sure move in fast so don’t forget to double check for new inhabitants. Thankfully no harm was made to Crumbs or her gorgeous little baby.

Spiders can bite and of course clean with caution. We do our best to protect our bunnies as spider bites just like with humans can harm.

Been debating whether to share this or not… but here it goes… information about what we feed our bunnies. ❤️

We have spent a fair bit of time playing around with different combinations and think we may have finally found one that works really well for our bunnies. Yes, the list is a little excessive… but we have found it provides great natural variation (giving our bunnies self autonomy) and gives us flexibility to adjust amounts for individual rabbits when needed.

So far, we have noticed that almost all rabbits consistently finish their bowls, which is a huge improvement on previous mixes tried. Less wasted feed is always a win, and they are clearly very keen on whatever the balance they have chosen.

Current mix includes:
• Barastoc Rabbit Pellets
• Mitavite Gumnuts
• Hygain Fibre Essentials
• Hay cubes (oaten, rye & clover)
• Steam-rolled barley
• Black sunflower seeds

Alongside this mix, all of our rabbits have constant access to oaten hay, fresh water bowls, and leafy greens (our favourites are cos lettuce, boc choy, carrot greens, and celery). As well as our very own in house made food toppings (check out The Hoppy Fern page for more information).

We swear our bunnies eat better than us at times! 🤣🤣🤣

~~~~
Please note this is no negative feeling towards what other people feed their bunnies. We just wanting to share our own findings and experiences so maybe others can learn or see. Afterall life is about learning and experiences! ❤️
~~~~
With all bunnies sold from us, we provide transition food for their new home. When supported with proper care, all rabbits can thrive on whichever feed you decide is best for your rabbit.

For pet homes, this is often a high-quality, rabbit-specific feed available from reputable pet stores.
