What would you do if your pet found itself in a life-threatening emergency? π
Sniffy, a 14-year-old Maltese cross (π· below) was given a dental treat while his owner, Deb, went to get ready in the morning. She thought Sniffy was being unusually quiet - but then heard a strange noise.
Deb says, "I could hear him scratching on the fridge, so I went to find out what the noise was. He was scratching his face and pushing himself onto the fridge. He wasn't breathing normally and was letting out light grunts and coughs."
Can you imagine how terrified Deb must have felt? Fortunately, she had received a copy of our FREE Pet First Aid Guide and was equipped with the knowledge of what to do. Get your copy of the guide at https://petfirstaid.rspcavic.org.au/?source=2018-FB-POST12-SNIFFY
Thanks to Deb's quick thinking and having read the Pet First Aid Guide, she was able to save Sniffy's life by lifting his hind legs and delivering a few short, firm taps to his back. Sniffy soon coughed out the piece of dental treat. While a bit shaken after the incident, he was soon back to his normal, happy self.
"Honestly, if I didn't learn about Pet First Aid, I would have had no idea what to do and my first reaction would have been simply to panic," says Deb.
