August 15 is Check the Chip Day!

Check the Chip Day is a national reminder of a simple but powerful action: making sure every microchipped pet has up-to-date registration details.

Each year, thousands of pets are lost - but microchipping dramatically increases the chances of a happy reunion. However, a chip is only as effective as the contact information behind it.

As a veterinary equipment distributor, we proudly supply microchipping systems and universal scanners to clinics across Australia.

This day is an ideal opportunity for clinics to:
• Remind clients to check their pet’s chip registration via their microchip registry
• Run a chip-checking day in practice or as part of community outreach
• Ensure their scanners are up to date and functioning accurately
• Educate pet owners on the importance of microchip registration and maintenance
Let’s work together to keep pets safe, traceable, and home where they belong.

August is Pet Dental Health Month.

Did you know that up to 80% of pets over age three are affected by dental disease? This makes this month the best time to raise awareness and highlight the importance of proactive dental care for pets.

Encourage your teams to discuss dental health during consultations with pet owners, highlighting the risks of periodontal disease and recommending at-home care, regular check-ups, and dental diets.

To support your clinic's efforts, we offer a range of professional dental equipment. Explore our full dental range at https://www.dlc.com.au/ and ensure your clinic is ready for Pet Dental Health Month and beyond.

July 15 is Pet Fire Safety Day, a reminder for clinics to help clients and staff prepare for bushfires.
Bushfires are a natural part of the Australian landscape. As a veterinary clinic, you can play a key role in encouraging owners to include pets in their fire plans - especially in high-risk areas.

Early evacuation is best, but all plans should specify when to leave, where to go, and what to bring, including essentials like food, water, meds, ID, and records.

Staff should update their own fire plans, making sure personal pets are covered. We encourage sharing fire safety tips in your clinic or on social media. Planning ahead protects everyone.

This Friday is Bring Your Dog to Work Day!

For our incredible vet and clinic customers, everyday feels like Bring Your Dog to Work Day! Your days are filled with paws, personalities, and the occasional chaos that comes with caring for patients big and small - and we’re proud to support the work you do.

As a team that works closely with the vet community, we’re joining in the fun by celebrating our own four-legged co-workers here at DLC - whose presence in our office brings joy, comfort, and daily inspiration to us all.

Meet the canine crew behind the scenes:

Ripley (aka Rippy Dip) – Sian’s golden retriever who brings sunshine and insists on fetch breaks out back.
Mercedes (aka Mercy) – Taylah’s ever-loyal staffy with a weakness for tummy rubs.
Penny – Anthony’s sassy sausage dog who patrols the office like she’s in charge (she’s not wrong).

Here’s to the pets that brighten up every kind of workplace!

This week is Dog Anxiety Awareness Week – a great reminder for pet owners to check in on their dog’s emotional well-being.

70% of dogs experience anxious behaviour. However, many owners struggle to recognise anxiety. Some signs that owners can look out for include changes in behaviour, eating, or toileting habits.

If you are concerned about your dogs anxiety ask your Vet to share pamphlets or recommend trusted therapists to guide them in managing their anxiety. When left untreated, anxiety can lead to serious health and behavioural issues. Dogs can’t manage anxiety alone – they rely on us. Let’s use this week to spread awareness and support happier, healthier lives for our four-legged mates.

This Easter weekend, however you’re celebrating, keep your pets safe!

Keep chocolate out of reach and supervise pets during festivities. Curious pets may try to sneak a taste, and chocolate contains theobromine, which is toxic to your beloved pet and can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, and seizures. Watch for signs of poisoning, such as restlessness, tremors, or seizures.

If your pet shows symptoms, contact your vet or the Australian Animal Poison Helpline at 1800 613 024.

Wishing you a safe and happy Easter!
