👻Happy Halloween 🎃

As spooky day arrives, we understand that the 'day of the dead' can be a time that brings up a lot of feelings to anyone experiencing loss.

Sometimes this holiday is about celebrating, dressing up, or for many, it's a moment to cherish what we have experienced, or to take a moment to reflect and cherish those we have loved and lost. Whether we reflect on shared memories, or light a candle next to a photo as a tribute, to remember any beloved fur babies that are no longer with us.

The Hold My Paws team wishes everyone a happy halloween and reminds everyone to be kind, look after themselves, and reach out to friends and family when needed

Saying goodbye to Panda 🐈🤍

Recently we helped Panda's family to say a compassionate goodbye.

Here family were kind to share words of their experience:
"Laurel was very thoughtful, kind and compassionate. She steps through all processes in great details and gave us plenty of time to say our goodbyes. Our little cat, Panda slept peacefully and we were at ease sending her off"

🐾 Creating a personal memorial for your pet 🕯

The way we memorise our pets is so unique, just like our pets and our bond with them
There is no correct or incorrect way or time to create a memorial for your pet. Sometimes having a dedicated space to commemorate those we have loved and lost can help us cope with our grief, and remind ourselves of the love we experienced and gave.

Whether it's a photo of your beloved fur baby, or a spot with other loved family members you've lost, or a small shrine with their collar, tag or favourite toys.

🐾 Small changes can make a big difference to an ageing pet's comfort 🤍

As our pets age, just like us, their bodies and needs start to change too.
As they change, so can the way that they move and go about their everyday lives.
Sometimes, a few simple adjustments at home can help make things that little bit easier for them.

Here are some examples of small changes you can make to make life that little bit more comfortable for our pets:

1. Installing stairs, ramps, and adjusting surfaces for their needs:
Ramps or pet stairs may help reduce the need for jumping on and off the couch, bed or in and out of the car, relieving joints and preventing any potential slips or falls.

2. Give them somewhere comfortable to rest
A supportive, well-padded bed can help your pet settle comfortably and make getting up a little easier. Look for a bed that suits their size and needs, with enough support for their joints.

3. Help them find their footing
Non-slip surfaces, even just mats, rugs, carpet, grass, or non-slip mats can make moving around feel safer and easier, and prevent injury from slips or falls.

Pay attention to the little changes.

Our pets don't always show discomfort in obvious ways, and changes in their mobility, behaviour or daily routines can be easy to overlook. If you notice something different, it's worth having a chat with your vet to help understand what's going on and how best to support them.

💐Remembering Dash 🐾

Some dogs come into our lives when we need them most, and somehow, without us even realising it, they become exactly who we needed. 🤍

Dash was one of those very special dogs. While people might think they rescued him, in reality, he rescued them during an incredibly difficult time for their family.

Dash was clearly a very special boy, not only for the love he gave, but for the depth of emotion he showed in return. Kim shared that she had never witnessed a dog actively grieve before meeting Dash. He had a beautiful way of reminding those around him just how deeply dogs feel, love and connect with us. 🐾

And on his last day, there was one final treat to enjoy: a Macca’s soft serve. 🍦 A little moment of happiness to round off a life that meant so much to the people who loved him.

Thank you, Kim, for sharing Dash’s story with us. What a good boi he was, and what a lasting mark he has left on your family’s hearts.

Rest peacefully, beautiful Dash. You were so deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten. 🌈

💐 Saying Goodbye to Ron ❤️

When a beloved pet is facing the end of their life, families are often navigating an incredibly difficult mix of emotions: love, grief, uncertainty and the desire to make the kindest decision possible.

We are so grateful to Ron's family for trusting Hold My Paws with such an incredibly personal moment, and for taking the time to share their experience with us:

“Our boy Ron was diagnosed with kidney disease, and the vet gave him only a few weeks to live. He was always a fighter, but the disease was taking its toll, and we wanted him to go with dignity and ease his suffering.

We chanced upon Dr Laurel online and decided to give Hold My Paws a go.

Dr Laurel was quick to reply, even offering to come late at night.

When a date was sorted, and we met up, she was patient, understanding and very compassionate. She was more than happy to chat, give advice and support.

Ron, as well as our other boys were very comfortable with her presence.

My darling boy passed away in my arms, at home, amongst family, no more pain, no more suffering. We couldn't ask for more.

The cremation service and return of ashes were done very swiftly and smoothly.

We cannot thank Hold My Paws enough for helping us through this tough time. When everything was over, Dr Laurel contacted us to check on our well-being. A very nice gesture.

Thank you for everything, Doc. We appreciate it."

💙Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart. 🐦

We know the size of our pet doesn't change the amount of love we have for them. At Hold My Paws we take on appointments with pocket pets, including birds, rabbits and guinea pigs, because we know how much these little creatures make the biggest impact on us, and deserve care and respect like any other patient.

From their little chirps in the morning to their silly personalities, curious little adventures and the comfort of simply having them nearby, smallest moments often become the ones we treasure most. 🥹💕

Our pets don’t have to be big to make a big impact on our hearts.

And whether they have four paws, two wings, fins or feathers, the love we share with them is very real. 🐾🪽

🏉🐾 Grand Final weekend is here!

While we love a big game day, the noise and excitement can be a little overwhelming for our pets.

Between cheering crowds, loud TVs, visitors coming and going, parties and fireworks, it’s worth taking a few extra steps to help your pets feel safe and comfortable.

🐶 Create a quiet, secure space they can retreat to
🐱 Keep doors, gates and windows securely closed, especially if your pet is easily startled
🔊 Keep the TV or music at a comfortable volume
🦴 Give them something familiar to settle with, like their favourite bed, blanket or enrichment toy
❤️ Let them choose whether they want to be involved or have some quiet time away from the excitement

And remember, pets who are normally calm can become frightened when their environment suddenly changes.

If your pet becomes distressed, give them space, reassurance and plenty of time to settle.

🐦 What should you do if you find an “orphaned” baby bird this Spring/Summer? 🌿

Most of the time, these little guys are fledglings, hopping along the ground, learning to fly, while their parents stay close by to feed and protect them. ❤️

So, before you scoop up a baby bird, it’s important to know whether they actually need our help.
