Proud Trainer Moment!!

We are so proud of Leanne and her beautiful boy Austin, who at just 6 months old, has already earned his training vest which a huge milestone for such a young dog.

Austin is continuing his development with the goal of achieving his Public Access Test, and we can’t wait to see this promising young pup and his owner progress even further.

🏆 COMP CREW BRAG! 🏆

Last weekend our Comp Crew hit the road to attend the Canine Obedience Club of Townsville’s first-ever Sprint Dog trial! 🐕💨

And what a bloody great weekend it was! 🙌

All of the dogs did absolutely amazing, with plenty of fast runs, successful passes and, most importantly, dogs and handlers out there having an absolute blast together!

Sprint Dog might look simple — run fast, chase the lure 😂 — but it really is a team effort. From the person holding at the start line, to the catcher waiting at the finish, to everyone helping, cheering and supporting each other in between runs. 💚

One of my favourite things about our Comp Crew is seeing everyone get behind each other. Whether someone is chasing a title, trying a sport for the first time, or simply getting out there and having fun with their dog, the support is always there. 🥹

A massive thank you to the judge and lure operator who travelled all the way from Victoria to make the weekend possible. We appreciate the time, effort and expertise that goes into running these events!

And of course, a HUGE thank you to the Canine Obedience Club of Townsville and all of the volunteers who worked behind the scenes to put on their very first Sprint Dog trial. You guys absolutely smashed it! 👏

The atmosphere all weekend was incredible — everyone was welcoming, supportive and just there to have a bloody good time with their dogs. Exactly what dog sports should be about. 💚

Congratulations to our entire Comp Crew! We are so damn proud of you all.

Townsville… I think it’s safe to say we’ll be back! 🐕💨🏆

At Mackay K9, our trainers don’t just talk the talk, we genuinely walk the walk. We’re committed to continually learning, refining our skills, and exploring new training systems so we can show our clients what’s truly achievable for them and their dogs.

Last month, Ell and Fame spent a fortnight in Canberra immersing themselves in the GAK9 tracking system. Over two weeks they worked across rural, urban, and suburban environments, tracking a variety of people over different surfaces and through all kinds of distractions.

During that time, Ell earned her Field Handler Certification, Field Specialist Certification, and Urban Handler Certification, a huge achievement and a testament to the standard we hold ourselves to.

Who has a dog that tries to launch out of their crate the moment the door cracks open? Or do you find yourself opening the car door only to do that frantic juggle of trying to grab your dog at the same time? And we get it, these are generally really exciting moments for our dogs!!

As a 1 yo adolescent, this is exactly the skill we’re working on with Famous!

Teaching our dog’s to wait before exiting the car or crate is one of those tiny habits that creates massive long term wins.

It builds impulse control, keeps them safe in busy car parks or new environments, and helps them stay calm and thoughtful instead of rushing into the world in overdrive. This simple skill also strengthens your communication and your dog learns to check in with you first, making everyday moments smoother and more enjoyable.

A small pause, a big payoff. 🐾

What a difference four months can make!!

From a shy 6 month old pup to a powerful, forward 10 month old Rottweiler… Dodge has grown and developed so much.

When we first met him, he was all puppy shyness and goofy charm. Today’s photo shows a very different dog, bigger, bolder, stronger, and stepping into that classic Rottie presence.

This is why early training matters. When a dog grows this quickly, good foundations aren’t optional… they’re essential.

So proud of Dodge and his people for putting in the work. He is truely growing into something special.

One thing we all share at Mackay K9 is a genuine love of dogs, and watching that love bring people together is something really special.

On our recent pack walk, it made my day watching these two lovely ladies chat the whole way back to the cars, completely at ease, dogs trotting happily along and it’s moments like this remind us why we do what we do.

Nothing makes us happier than seeing like minded people connect, grow and enjoy their dogs even more.

Therapy dogs play an incredibly meaningful role in our communities, in schools, aged‑care facilities, hospitals, libraries, kindergartens and so many other spaces.

As the local trainers for Therapy Dogs Australia, it brings us genuine pride to be part of each dog’s training journey and to support them as they grow into their therapy careers, bringing comfort, connection and happiness to so many people.

Huge shoutout to Alex and her boy Reacher!

This month they stepped up and tried something completely new, Sled Racing. It’s fast, it’s intense, it’s high‑energy… and they gave it everything.

We’re incredibly proud of clients who back themselves, try new sports, and keep expanding what’s possible for their dogs. That’s exactly what the MK9 Comp Crew is all about, cheering each other on, showing up, and celebrating every milestone, big or small.

Amazing work Alex and Reacher, we can’t wait to see you grow in this sport!!
