✨✨ WE NEED YOUR INPUT! LET’S PLAN FOR 2027! ✨

2027 is just around the corner, and it’s time to get a little more organised behind the scenes at Equality Equine Services!

As you all know, structure and planning aren’t exactly the strongest points of a highly creative ♎️ 😂 But to make things run more smoothly for everyone, we’re looking at making a few changes for the year ahead, and we want your input!

🐴 1. Regular Hoof Trimming Schedules

Currently, we work around when each horse needs doing and when you get in touch. Moving forward, we’re looking at setting up regular trimming cycles for clients in different areas, scheduled throughout the year.

This will help us plan our travel, keep horses on a consistent schedule and make sure everyone knows when their next appointment is coming up.

🐎 2. Riding Lessons & Block Bookings

We’re looking at offering discounted lesson packages when you book a block of lessons in advance.

Would this be something you’d be interested in? What sort of lesson frequency would work best for you?

💆 3. Bodywork & Follow-Ups

We want to make it easier to plan ongoing bodywork and follow-up appointments rather than simply booking as issues arise.

We’re looking at scheduling these in advance to provide better continuity for your horse’s care.

📅 4. Clinics & Workshops

We’ll be planning our clinics for the entire year, with the first half of 2027 published on the website so you can plan ahead, secure your place and organise your calendar early!

We’re working towards making our products available to purchase directly through the website, making it easier for you to get what you need.

Products we’re planning to offer include:

🐴 6. Horses Coming In for Training

We’re also looking at opportunities for horses to come in for training.

Whether you’re looking for help with a particular challenge, further education for your horse, or development of their skills, we’d love to hear what sort of training opportunities you’d be interested in.

For training, I offer structured programmes in 4-, 6- and 8-week blocks, tailored to each horse’s individual needs and age. This allows us to create an appropriate plan for their development, with the length and focus of the programme suited to their stage of training, ability and goals.

🌧️ The grass is green again… but what does that mean for our horses? 🌱🐴

With the rain finally arriving and the paddocks starting to green up, it’s lovely to see some colour returning to the landscape. After such a dry spell, I think we can all appreciate seeing grass growing again!

But this time of year also brings a familiar list of problems that keep us busy caring for our horses. Many of these issues begin with the same root cause: the gut microbiome adapting to a dramatic change in forage, pasture and overall management.

🐴 Some of the common issues we see around this time of year include:

🔸 Colic – sudden changes in forage, pasture and water intake can disrupt digestion and contribute to digestive upsets.

🔸 Worm burdens – when conditions become warmer and wetter, parasite activity can increase, making it important to review faecal egg counts and worming plans rather than treating routinely.

🔸 Digital pulses – something worth paying attention to, particularly when there’s a sudden change in pasture growth or a horse is showing signs of foot discomfort.

🔸 Laminitis – fresh pasture can be a concern for susceptible horses, especially those with underlying metabolic issues.

🔸 Rain scald – prolonged wet conditions can create the perfect environment for skin infections to develop.

🔸 Greasy heel – wet, muddy conditions can leave legs vulnerable to inflammation, scabs and infection.

🔸 Mud fever – another familiar problem when horses spend time in wet, muddy paddocks.

🔸 Hoof problems – persistent wet conditions can soften hooves and contribute to thrush, white line problems and other hoof issues.

🔸 Abscesses – changes in ground conditions and hoof integrity can mean more sore-footed horses appearing.

🔸 Skin irritations and fungal issues – damp coats, wet rugs and reduced drying time can all play a part.

🔸 Sacroiliac (SI) discomfort – changes in workload, footing and turnout can sometimes coincide with soreness through the back and pelvis, particularly as horses return to work.

And, of course, there’s another seasonal trend… lots of ladies wanting to get back out riding! 😄🐎

After months of dry paddocks, dust and limited grass, it’s understandable that everyone is keen to enjoy the rain and get their horses out and about again.

The trick is enjoying the green grass while remembering that a change in season also means a change in management. Not every horse will cope with the same pasture, and not every horse will be ready for the same workload. Gradual transitions may help reduce the risk of digestive and metabolic problems.

🌱 Green grass is wonderful to see. We just need to make sure our horses can enjoy it safely.

🌧 RAIN! GLORIOUS RAIN! 🌧

Today we finally had our first really good downpour, with running water across the property! 🙌

And yes, the horses got some extra higher-sugar barley hay today to help them cope with the cold, wet weather. 🐴

It’s always amazing to see just how quickly the ground can turn from brown to green after a good soaking. 🌱💚

What many people probably don’t realise is that we were completely out of stock water. With hay already becoming so hard to get, we were getting to the point where we would have been carting water for the stock as well!

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this rain. It’s more than just a bit of wet weather for us — it’s a huge relief! 🙏
