🐴 ANXIETY-FILLED HORSES 🐴

I talk about anxious horses a lot because it seems we have a perfect storm creating anxious and herd-bound horses in this current horsemanship era.

Why is that when more knowledge than ever is at people's fingertips?

Over the years I've seen a strong pattern emerging from the data.

Given that last week alone I physically interacted with over 100 different equines (33 of those being the cute mini donkeys I get to trim 😍), it's pretty easy to spot commonalities.

The picture below is my scruffy herd sleeping. All lined up, facing the same direction, watching the creek.

Then there's Dusty... dancing to the beat of his own drum and facing the opposite way.

Now, this could be interpreted as him not being welcomed into the herd. He definitely isn't the horse standing guard for them either.

But he is loved by the herd.

The reason he can sleep alone is because he trusts himself to deal with whatever situation may arise.

That inner trust is something we can encourage our horses to build, and I think that's pretty amazing. 👏🤩

P.S. He's also smart enough to know Australia doesn't actually have lions or other large predators waiting to eat him. 😂

So my question is:

What do you think is needed for people and horses to become more confident?

What resources would personally help you?

And if you don't know, that's okay too.

My core message for today:

Sometimes being the one on the outside can feel like you don't fit in or belong.

But maybe it's not because you're the sheep following the herd.

Maybe you're the eagle designed to fly. 🦅

My mother used to shoe our own show horses over 30 years ago because no farrier would travel to where we lived. Later, I went on to study both hot and cold shoeing — but ultimately decided the barefoot path was the best fit for me and my horses.

Fast forward to today, and I now complete thousands of trims each year and am proudly recommended by vets throughout the area. But honestly… my passion doesn’t stop at trimming horses.

My heart is in empowering horse owners to understand, care for, and confidently work with their own horses.

So let’s get into it. 👣🐎

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already have some experience, this course is designed to give you a solid foundation before moving into more advanced hoof care courses later on.
