Our little trooper Rex 🦎
Little Rex came to us with the end of his tail dead after it got caught in a door - to prevent any further damage, we took the end of his tail off and he was the most amazing patient we could’ve imagined! With the support from his Nurse Ella and the Brains of his Dr Chelsea, his surgery went perfectly πŸ’œπŸ’š

🦜 H5N1 BIRD FLU (AVIAN INFLUENZA): WHAT AUSTRALIANS NEED TO KNOW πŸ¦†
Australia is currently experiencing an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (bird flu) in wild birds. While the risk to the general public remains low, this virus can spread rapidly among wild birds and poultry, making awareness and early reporting incredibly important.
⚠️ How you can help protect wildlife, your pets and your community:
🐦 Do not touch or handle sick or dead birds.
πŸ“ Keep your distance and prevent children and pets from approaching them.
πŸ“Έ If safe to do so, take a photo and note the location.
πŸ“ž Report sick or dead wild birds to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline (1800 675 888) or your state's relevant authority.
πŸ“ If you own backyard chickens or pet birds:
β€’ Keep them separated from wild birds.
β€’ Prevent access to wild bird droppings, food and water sources.
β€’ Maintain excellent hygiene and biosecurity.
β€’ Monitor them closely for signs of illness

❗ Signs of illness in birds may include:
β€’ Sudden death
β€’ Lethargy or weakness
β€’ Difficulty breathing
β€’ Swelling around the head or eyes
β€’ Twisting of the neck or difficulty walking
β€’ Reduced appetite or egg production (in poultry)

πŸ’š A few important facts:
β€’ The current Australian outbreak is affecting wild birds, with no confirmed infections in commercial poultry at this time.
β€’ The risk to the general public remains low, and human infections are rare, usually occurring after close, unprotected contact with infected birds.
β€’ Every report helps authorities monitor and respond to the spread of this disease

By staying informed and taking simple precautions, we can all help protect Australia's unique wildlife, our pets and our poultry industries❀️

A very happy Saturday as we celebrate a milestone for our little trooper patient, Zeus!
In February, Zeus was admitted for emergency spinal surgery with Dr Adrian after presenting with intervertebral disc extrusion, causing spinal cord compression and leaving his back legs paralysed πŸ˜“
Zeus is now 18 weeks post operation and has been working hard twice a week doing his hydrotherapy with Carrie Anne, which has led us to this fabulous result! This determined little man always has his tail waging and is getting stronger everyday

Little Pinky the Axolotl came to us with a swollen neck and was unable to eat πŸ€’ After seeing Dr Chelsea, she discovered there was an old fish that had become stuck and lodged when Pinky last tried to eat - As you can see from our video shown, we were able to get that fish out of Pinky’s throat and he was able to go home a much happier axolotl than when he came in 🩷 Thank you Dr Chelsea!! πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ’œπŸ’š
