Today, our beautiful Gambit received his wings. 💔🕊️
It’s impossible to put 14+ years of memories, growth, challenges, adventures and unconditional love into one post… because Gambit wasn’t just a dog. He was a huge part of the Alpha family, and an even bigger part of Jess’s world.
Born in a shelter in Mildura, Gambit entered the world already standing out — the only boy in his litter, earning the shelter name “Ranger” after the Lone Ranger. Jess met him as a tiny pup, and the moment she walked into the shelter he ran straight to her feet. From that day on, they were inseparable.
Life wasn’t always easy for Gambit. The world felt big and scary to him, and there were many moments where others may have given up. But Jess never did. She made it her mission to understand him, help him, advocate for him, and keep him safe. What followed was years of learning, training, rehabilitation, patience, setbacks, wins, and a bond that most people could only dream of having with a dog.
Through Alpha, rehab classes, trainers courses, road trips, beach holidays, café lunches, and countless everyday moments, Gambit slowly showed the world who he really was underneath it all. So many people watched him grow from a dog who struggled deeply with the world around him into a dog who became an off-lead demo dog, worked rehab classes, and eventually welcomed Petey into his life with a gentleness nobody thought possible.
Ball obsessed, always wearing that big happy smile, and giving everything his whole heart — that’s how so many of us will remember him. 💕
Gambit helped shape not only Jess’s life, but many of ours too. He reminded us that progress isn’t always linear, that difficult dogs are still deserving of love and understanding, and that sometimes the dogs who challenge us the most leave the biggest mark on our hearts.
Even in his later years, he continued to amaze everyone with his resilience — taking on acupuncture, hydrotherapy, wheel carts and every challenge thrown his way with quiet determination.
He was there for Jess through the very worst moments of her life, and the very best ones too.
To know Gambit was to know loyalty, resilience, cheekiness, and love.
Run free beautiful boy. Thank you for everything you taught us. Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for leaving a big paw print in our hearts🐾.
We’ll miss you 💕
Love to Jess and the family at this time 💕
