Lest We Forget
Before the sun begins to rise,
We stand in silence, lowered eyes.
The world still sleeps, the air is cold,
Yet echoes whisper, brave and bold.
They were so young, with dreams in hand,
Called far away to foreign land.
From dust and fear, through fire and pain,
Not all would make the journey home again.
Beside them walked the loyal and true,
With steady hearts that somehow knew.
Through mud and miles, through loss and dread,
They stayed, even where angels feared to tread.
A mate, a hand, a final breath,
A quiet goodbye in the face of death.
No glory found in warโs embrace,
Just courage worn on every face.
And here we stand, in freedomโs light,
Because they stood, because theyโd fight.
So we remember, hearts regretโ
We live because they wonโt forget.
Lest we forget.
