BLAST FROM THE PAST

Taken ten years ago at Fig Tree Pocket when I competed SPR Louis Quatorze and SPR Balouska.
Both lovely young horses to ride, Balou ever so easy 🌸and Louis ever so powerful💪
Both horses were sold many years ago but they still come up in conversations when I ride their relatives which are still here and competing regularly.

I CAME BY FLUKE ACROSS THIS POST
It is an interview I gave years ago but the sound is of poor quality and at times hard to hear.
Still love the photo of me on a young Poesta 🦄

“Sit still and let your horse shine.” ✨

That idea sits at the heart of this powerful conversation with Linda Treur.

After working with horses across 12 countries, Linda explains that true horsemanship isn’t about overpowering the horse.

It’s about creating trust, timing, and partnership. From her belief that “a good mare works with you” to her insights on developing a rider’s instinct and feel, this episode challenges the need to constantly force results.

Sometimes the best thing a rider can do is become quiet enough to let the horse express its brilliance.

A thoughtful episode filled with honest advice, safety lessons, coaching wisdom, and real industry experience for riders at every level.

MY TWO COMPETITION / LESSON HORSES AND THEIR NEW RIDERS.

Both Angelina and Emma have had lessons here for quite some time and are keen to get up the levels.
Angelina has already competed both horses but has set her sights on upgrading herself with Figaro ( by Sandro Hit) before she heads to Europe for training.

Emma had a fantastic debut when she rode her first competition on Figaro and won both classes.
She will take Fiyero (by Weltmeyer) out this weekend for a training / protocol day as preparation to compete him over the winter season.

Exciting times ahead for these two combinations 🙌

QUINN IS A POPULAR LESSON HORSE.

This lovely natured Irish Sport Horse mare is such an asset to our place.
She is touching the 17hh but fortunately her movement is not too big so most riders are coping just fine.
Here she is teaching one of the riders to jump. Always focused and steady enough that even if the rider is not quite balanced, she is barely affected.
Fortunately we use voice commands so a simple "whoah" will slow her down.
Although we give mainly dressage lessons, it is good for both horse and rider to have some variety and while dressage sets you up for a straight and balanced ride, jumping will set you up for becoming a better and more confident rider in the canter.

A GREAT WEEKEND FOR ALL AT OUR FIRST COMPETITION OF THE YEAR. 🙌

Proud coach, trainer and breeder here.
All 5 SPR horses were bred and raised here.
All 5 were broken in here.
All riders are coached here.
We got through 18 dressage tests and we all had our great moments as well as some homework…

Despite the rain, we all enjoyed the weekend, caught up with friends, plenty of wine 🍷 and nibbles as well as many placings and wins. 🏆
SPR PRIMA VERA had a win, a 2nd and overall reserve Champion of the Medium class.
Love her 🧡
SPR FIGARO had 2 wins with Emma in Preliminary. and 2 seconds with Angelina in Novice. 💪
SPR TAMINO had a third and other placings and was overall 3rd in the Preliminary ⭐️
SPR EVITA dipped her toes in Elementary and showed great work in trot, canter and all lateral movements but the walk was MIA which rightfully knocked the score down. 🥴
SPR LUZIFER had his first ever outing! At 17.2 hh and still thinking he is just a little foal, he did so well on the first two days and got his first ribbon. 🙌

TEAM "QUINN" HAD A BLAST DURING OUR COMPETITION.

Both riders, Lilly and Louise learned to ride here on our lesson horses Indi and Shrek but Quinn, our Irish Sport Horse mare, has a special place in their heart.
Their choice was clear when they signed up for the day that it had to be Quinn.
She is the nicest mare, always reliable and despite her height of 17 hands, she is light on the aids, voice command trained and has a lovely controlled uphill canter.
Well done ladies, you both survived the course with plenty of thrills but no spills.🙌

Thank you to Mick and Tracee for the photos Mi-Studio - Photography

WHAT A GREAT BUNCH OF RIDERS WE HAVE.
and best of all they all suffer a healthy dose of having a sense of humour !

The end of year fun ride is highly popular and some riders already claim a horse a year in advance.
It is a combination of Working Equitation, Show Jumping and Cross Country.🏇
All at a low level so anyone can survive it.

This year it was Tormina and her Superstar, SPR POESTA who won fair and square.
Tormina now understands that if you sit still and let her do what she is brilliant at, you will have a great ride.🙌
I think Tormina had her eyes closed at times and I heard some war cries but it all paid of.
They won Eternal Fame...🏆

D***Y JUMPING LESSON. 😴

We like the horses to make no fuss when it comes to going over obstacles.
Here are two mature brothers ( Tamino and Fiyero, both by Weltmeyer ) showing their young and green nephew ( Luzifer by Vitalis) how it is done.

Once they easily trot over a crossbar we take the next step: Trot approach. Canter departure. Four canter strides after the jump back to trot by simply saying whoah no pulling of reins required.
Eventually a canter approach and a calm canter departure.

Well done Bec, Angelina and Taya for successfully riding the horses in a d***y way 😁🐌
