Post-operative wound swelling: is it a worry?

Is your pet due to undergo surgery, such as desexing or lump removal?
Whilst a small amount of redness and swelling is expected for a few days after surgery in the majority of cases wounds should look clean and pink.

There is always a chance of a problem arising particularly given pets are not always the best at following their post-op instructions. In this month’s newsletter we go over what to look out for when your pet is recovering for surgery.

🐕👩‍⚕️World Veterinary Day 👨‍⚕️🐱

Saturday the 25th of April was World Veterinary Day and whilst we paused to honour our servicemen and women on ANZAC day, we thought we would take the opportunity today to celebrate our Veterinary Team.

The theme for this year’s World Veterinary Day is “Guardians of Food and Health”. Whilst this theme mostly focuses on farming and livestock, it also highlights our Veterinary Professionals that have a deep commitment and scientific understanding of animal welfare. It is a reminder that as a small animal hospital it often takes a team of Veterinarians to diagnose and protect the health of our fur children.

We would like to highlight the work of our fabulous Veterinarians here at BPVH who work tirelessly to a high standard of care and for the best outcome for your fur family.

We truly appreciate and are fortunate to have such a dedicated and highly skilled team at BPVH that makes coming to work every day so rewarding in this profession. Not forgetting our wonderful clientele and pet parents who also make our job that much more enjoyable.

We get it – maintaining a comprehensive parasite prevention program for your pet can be challenging in terms of the expense, knowing which products to use, and keeping track of dates!

But the reality is that the treatment required for parasite-related health issues is usually more costly! And in the case of the potentially deadly parasite-related illnesses, such as tick paralysis or heartworm infestation, the consequences of leaving your pet unprotected can be awful for the poor pet and traumatic for their owner, too.
