A little update for our clients 🐾

Over the coming weeks, there may be some days where our clinic is closed over the lunchtime period which can be between 12-2pm.

This is only temporary and will allow our team to manage staffing and for training so we can ensure we can continue providing the best possible care to our patients. ❤️

If you’re planning to visit us around lunchtime, we recommend giving us a quick call first to check our opening hours for the day.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time! 🐶🐱

🐰 Meet Muffin! 🐰

This is adorable Muffin, a Dwarf Lop Rabbit with Nurse Krystal who recently visited us for his castration! 🩺

Did you know that rabbits need different surgical care compared to dogs and cats?

Rabbits should NEVER be fasted before surgery. Unlike dogs and cats, their digestive system needs to keep moving almost constantly! This is to prevent a life- threatening condition called gut stasis. Gut stasis is caused by these guys not eating as regularly as they should. When this happens, food, gas and even the hair they swallow while grooming can build up in their digestive tract, causing severe pain, dehydration and a dangerous slowdown of gut function. 🐇

That’s why our team takes extra special care with every bunny patient! While your bunny is under general anaesthetic and in recovery they are very closely monitored for any symptoms of gut stasis and we aim to keep them as comfortable and stress free as possible☺️
As soon as they’re awake from their anaesthetic, we start syringe feeding a recovery diet called Critical Care (which most bunnies absolutely love!). We also encourage owners to bring along their rabbit’s favourite treats and snacks to tempt them to start eating as soon as possible 🥕

If you’re needing your rabbit desexed or have any questions about their care- don’t hesitate to give us a ring 99211797.

🐱 Is your cat due for their annual health check?
Sooty was in recently for a check up!

Cats are experts at hiding illness, which means they can be unwell long before any obvious signs appear.

An annual health check gives your veterinarian the opportunity to:
🐾 Detect health problems early
⚖️ Monitor weight and overall condition
🦷 Check dental health
❤️ Listen to the heart and lungs
💉 Keep vaccinations and parasite prevention up to date
💙 Discuss any changes you’ve noticed at home

A simple check-up today could help catch a problem early and keep your cat happy, healthy and purring for years to come.

📞 If your cat is due for their annual health check, give us a call to book an appointment today!

Our team has been busy investing in their skills, attending the Veterinary Nurse Council of Australia Continuing Professional Development Seminar! 👏🐾

Some of our nurses and vets spent the weekend expanding their knowledge in a range of important topics, including:
🩺 Anaesthesia and patient monitoring
❤️ CPR and life-saving techniques
💉 Emergency medications
🐶 Practical nursing skills
📚 And so much more!

At Sanford Veterinary Clinic, we’re committed to lifelong learning because staying up to date with the latest veterinary knowledge means we can continue providing the highest standard of care for your pets.

A big thank you to our local TAFE, Veterinary Nurse Council of Australia and for everyone who helped in setting up and hosting such an informative and valuable weekend. We’re proud of our team for dedicating their own time to continuing their professional development and bringing new knowledge back to the clinic. 💙

🌟 MEET THE TEAM – Samantha! 🌟

Today we’re shining the spotlight on one of the familiar faces behind Sanford Veterinary Clinic… our incredible Practice Manager, Samantha! ❤️🐾

Samantha has been part of the Sanford family for an amazing 21 years! 🎉
She started as a kennel hand, worked her way up to a trainee veterinary nurse, then became a qualified veterinary nurse, took on reception, and is now our fantastic Practice Manager. We couldn’t be prouder of everything she has achieved!

While Samantha enjoys every aspect of clinic life, what she loves most is building genuine relationships with our clients and patients and making sure every family receives the exceptional care and service they deserve. ❤️

When she’s not at the clinic, Samantha is kept busy by her two human kiddos and her two gorgeous Border Collies, Harry and Luna 🐶 and her sweet cat Louie 🐱.

If you’ve visited Sanford over the years, there’s a good chance Samantha has been there to help you with a smile. 😊 Thank you, Samantha, for your unwavering commitment, kindness and the countless lives—both two and four-legged—you’ve touched over the past 21 years. We’re so lucky to have you as part of the Sanford family! ❤️

Is your furry friend microchipped? 🐶🐱

A microchip is one of the simplest ways to help your pet find their way back home if they ever become lost.

Did you know, since 2015, it has been a legal requirement for all cats and dogs to be microchipped? The best time is usually when they come in for their puppy/kitten vaccinations, but they can be microchipped at any age ☺️

Commonly microchipping and council registrations are mistaken for the same thing. Please be aware that although both are legal requirements these are different!
Microchipping is required to have prior to registering your furry friend with the council. Microchipping is done at your choice of Vet clinic and registrations can only be done at the council🐾

It is your responsibility as an owner to ensure your pet is microchipped, unless your breeder has already organised this for you—so don’t forget to ask! 😊

📞 Have questions or ready to book?
Call us on 9921 1797, pop into the clinic, or book online—we’re always happy to help! 🩺❤️
A cute photo of Jess, who was recently microchipped!
