Project Meow Geelong

Project Meow Geelong Our mission is to prevent & protect kittens & cats in Geelong via our Kitten Club & Cat Desexing Program.

Our mission is to prevent and protect cats and kittens in the City of Greater Geelong. We achieve this through our Cat Desexing Program and our Kitten Club Program. Every cat should have access to desexing assistance, and every kitten should be placed on a safe path that provides the best outcome for them including desexing, vaccinations, microchipping and parasite treatments before going into a h

ome. We provide Mums and her Kittens with long- and short-term nursery care to support them. Our goal is to prevent any kittens being given away before desexing etc occurs. This program has protected kittens from being retained without vet care, abandoned, neglected or abused. When seeking homes for kittens we arrange adoption packages via us or by application with our friends at Geelong Animal Rescue GAR. We want the best outcomes and homes for our kitten club kids. All Mums in this program are desexed for free to celebrate her last litter. We are not a public shelter, and we are not a vet clinic. We are a unique recue group that cares for feline families and support all cats in Geelong by facilitating and arranging safe pathways and desexing procedures.

100% of money raised from our kind community and sponsors goes toward paying our vet bills. We offer low-cost, partially funded or free desexing procedures depending on each individual circumstance. We also have discounted microchips and vaccinations for our desexing clients to take advantage of on the day of desexing. Visit our website for all the information or call us for a chat.

All cats were kittens once—but only for a moment.
Letting them slip into the breeding cycle isn’t sweet.
It’s brutal—especially when a kitten can fall pregnant at 16 weeks, and be nursing her own litter by 6 months… likely after being hunted down by older males.

In 2025, with all the support available, letting that happen isn’t just careless—it’s irresponsible.

These weekly sausage sizzles in South Geelong help us fund further fundraising efforts that in turn provide more desexing opportunities for cats in Geelong and care for mums and kittens in our Kitten Club Program, who are still surfacing—even now, in winter.

💥 Can’t make it to PetO?

Cat overpopulation is seriously hurting them, our environment, our wildlife and our community.
We’ve never seen animal welfare in Geelong look this bad.
We used to be proud of how this city showed up.
What went wrong—and how can we turn it around?
Time to act!

Support us because we are here offering assistance every week of every month of every year for the cats in need of these critical desexing procedures.

With so many cats and kittens struggling to find care in the arms of a foster carer within a rescue and then not being able to just gracefully enter the pound system for help, we beg of you to choose adoption when looking for a companion or if you do decide to take a kitten or cat from the street please make desexing, vaccines, microchips and parasite treatments are the big priority. If you cannot provide that you are really not helping much at all.

“The only way to fix this is to fix them!”
Project Meow Geelong for desexing assistance.
Geelong Animal Rescue GAR Ltd if you would love to adopt or foster some animals in need. 💜🧡💙💜
Adoption means your animal is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and parasite treated AND THIS supports the organisation you adopt from.
No money is made on adoption, none at all. To vet a kitten to the same level would cost $500-$700 easy.

When you adopt you make space for another to get the help they need.

😻 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION 😻
NAME: Hattie
BREED: Domestic Short Hair
GENDER: Female
AGE: 3 months
MICROCHIP: 956000018874171

Meet the irresistibly adorable Hattie!

Hattie came into care with her mum Emmie and three sisters, Oakie, Pixie & Remmie. This sweet little family has blossomed into the most affectionate, friendly bunch of kittens you could ever hope to meet.

Hattie is a little bundle of love — always ready for cuddles and the first to climb into your lap. She adores snuggling under blankets and purrs at every opportunity. Playtime is another one of her favourite things, especially when it involves a good game of wrestle with her sisters. She is also a bit of a Mummy’s girl & loves cuddling up beside her & getting a free grooming session. Don’t tell her sisters, but I think she’s Emmie’s favourite too.

Hattie would be thrilled to find a forever home with her mum, or else one of her siblings, Remmie or Pixie (Oakie has already been adopted). That said, she'd also be happy with another feline friend (though it's not essential if the right family comes along).

Hattie is currently thriving in a busy foster home alongside her mum, sisters, two school-aged children, a dog, and two resident cats. She gets along well with the other cats and was initially unfazed by the large kelpie-cross dog. However, after her mum had a less-than-welcoming encounter with him, Hattie and her siblings have become a bit wary. Thankfully, they’re slowly warming up to him again and are now allowing him to come close for a sniff. With patience and a gentle introduction, I’m certain Hattie will adjust well to a canine companion. Hattie has been an indoor only cat while in foster care and must continue this in her forever home for her own safety.

This lovely little kitten would be a perfect fit in just about any household. She's confident, curious, gentle, and affectionate — great with children, cats, and, with time, dogs too. If you’re looking for a sweet, cuddly, and playful addition to your family, Hattie might just be your perfect match.

Hattie is desexed, microchipped & up to date with vaccinations, flea and worm treatments.

Missy — one of our beautiful Kitten Club mums — said goodbye to breeding this week. Her last litter is safe, and so is she. 💛 Yes Kittens in winter and we have more coming!

These boys, Casper and Puddy, stepped up too. They laid their breeding woes on the table and walked out lighter, safer, and free from the cycle so many cats get trapped in.

We have another 5 ladies who will end the week with a future that looks much nicer!
Gosh it feels good! Futures forever changed! Lives prevented! Lives saved!

These small steps we take are consistent every week of every month of the year. We are forever focused on fewer litters, less suffering, and a better Geelong for cats and wildlife.

If this work speaks to you, help us keep it going:

Not every charity comes with a tax deduction — but ours comes with impact you can feel.

As EOFY rolls in, the noise about DGR is LOUD. Like Oprah handing out new cars loud.
“You get a deduction! You get a deduction!”
And we get it — it’s great when you can claim your kindness back on your tax.

But here’s the truth: Project Meow isn’t DGR (yet).
It’s a technicality. Something about housing we are addressing as soon as the nursery in completed.
What we do have RIGHT NOW is
🧡 A track record of preventing thousands of unwanted litters.
🧡A community desexing program that actually works.
🧡 A team out there every week — rain, wind, or cold — raising funds the hard way: one sausage, one chat, one cat at a time.

This is prevention that never makes it to the pound.
That’s impact.
And no receipt will ever show you that like we can.

So yeah — we’re not on the ATO’s VIP list yet.
But we are one of Geelong’s most valuable services helping cats, owners, and our environment live better lives.

And we’re not just asking for help — we’re working for it.
Support us this EOFY. Not because it gets you a return…
…but because it gives one. 💥

This made us so happy today—to end the risk for Raven and Flash.

We can't show you their little faces because they were off their chops in recovery, and we don’t want to embarrass them. 😹

Now safe—from hormones, surprise pregnancies, and the stress that comes with being entire and sharing a space.
In the coming weeks, these two will melt into their blissfully desexed lives.
Their glances at each other will hold Mona Lisa smiles with absolutely nothing behind them.
Life’s about to get really sweet.

Trying to stop entire cats from breeding when they live together—or even near each other—is a losing game.
It doesn’t work. It never has.

We must face the bigger picture:

💔 Pounds are full
💔 Cats are being euthanised
💔 Others are given away, just to start another problem cycle
💔 Many are abandoned—left behind in house moves, dumped on the streets, or born into wild cycles
💔 The truth is: adoption is no longer the solution—desexing really is.

Desexing isn’t just prevention.
It’s protection.
It’s the solution.

For them, and for the ones who’ll never be born into suffering.
Aberdeen Veterinary Clinic our heros!

23/06/2025

They deserve more than survival. They deserve a desexed life.

Cats don’t ask to be born on the street. They don’t ask to be hunted by toms before they’ve even finished growing. They don’t ask to be dragged through heat after heat, birthing litter after litter, body worn out before their second birthday.

What they deserve is this:
🛏️ A soft bed.
☀️ A safe place in the sun.
💜 A life without the chaos of constant mating, roaming, and survival-mode stress.

Desexing gives them that.
No more hormonal confusion.
No more territorial fights.
No more kitten after kitten after kitten.

It brings them peace.
It brings them stability.
It gives them a chance to just be… a cat. Not a breeder. Not a fighter. Just… home.

If you love them—really love them—this is what you do.
You desex them.
You protect them.
You give them the life they should have had all along.
You make sacrifices for them.
You always step in and act for them.

23/06/2025

Desexing is essential—every cat, no exceptions.
But hey, it doesn’t grant a free pass to roam.
It’s not a shield of armour. It doesn’t make them bulletproof, roadproof, or worldproof.
It stops the breeding—but not the bleeding.

Even after desexing, outdoor dangers remain:
🚗 Cars.
🐍 Snakes/ Wildlife
🦘 Dog attacks / cruel people
😿 Getting lost, injured, or worse

BUT desexing does make containment easier.
No hormones screaming “escape!”
Their world gets smaller, safer - focused on home.

Think simple:
☀️ Sun-mapping their favorite warm spots
🛏️ Creating new routines
🐾 Offering enrichment that feels like freedom

Containment protects cats and our native wildlife.
Because even desexed cats still hunt—but they’re less likely to seek the thrill when they feel secure, settled, and loved.

🧬 And don’t forget—contained doesn’t mean invincible.
If your cat lives indoors or in an enclosure:
✅ Keep vaccinations up to date
✅ Always microchip
A window left open, a visitor’s mistake—accidents happen. That microchip? It’s their ticket home.

This is your moment.
Desex, contain, protect—and give your cat the best life on your terms, not the street’s.

What a week it has been! Thank you to everyone that came and brought snags yesterday and every other Saturday we have been sizzling!
We appreciate your support. We are not funded by council in any shape or form. Yet the work we do supports them. That’s ok as we have built some solid support within our community here in Geelong.

We hold these bbq sausage sizzles to raise funds for our desexing program and kitten club program. It is hard work but super important. So to all who are behind us and appreciate the work we do and why we do it “Thanks a bunch” it really means so much to us but it truly is also very much so life changing to the cats we help and the overall local landscape of animal welfare.

We are not a big name BUT we are most certainly a bloody big deal because desexing works! Adoption is the path of hope we wish for them all but sadly many are being left behind and falling through cracks we really should never see. Please desex your cats. The support is there. www.projectmrow.org.au

We’re flipping snags at PetO today so the real cats of Geelong don’t get flipped off. 🐱🔥
We’re in the heart of The City of Cats — but while our AFL team gets the glory, the actual felines of Geelong are still fighting to survive. Unwanted. Undesexed. Unseen.
Well, not on our watch. Not while we know what we know.
We’ve seen the pound kill lists.
We've seen them left living on the streets
We’ve held the sick ones dying from preventable viruses.
We’ve rescued kittens born into cold corners and cruel hands.
We've held the paws of kittens birthing kittens.
We've buried cats that have died from bite abscess wounds.
We've collected dead bodies of roaming cats.
And we’ve desexed like our lives depended on it — because for cats, they do.

So, we’re here, rain or shine, sizzling sausages to fund the fight.
Because we can’t go back to blissful ignorance — we’ve seen too much, and we know too well how bad it gets when no one steps up.

Our program runs every week of every month of every year because there is no better time to desex than right now!

Help us keep going.
