Meet Dr. Shona!

Dr. Shona grew up on a property working with horses and she has a strong passion for equine work.

Her interests mainly revolve in mare breeding and reproduction, as well as Equine Semen Freezing. She finds it most rewarding when we get to see the foals we’ve worked hard for hit the ground!

Meet Dr. Lily! 💛🐴

Dr. Lily grew up with horses and comes from a family of racehorse trainers. With horses of her own, she’s an all-rounder who loves attending rodeos, challenges, and shows.

She’s been especially interested in reproduction since university and loves problem mare management. Seeing the end result in happy healthy babies brings her joy!

Lameness and sports medicine are also dear to her heart.

Stallion management is her baby this season, focusing on getting our boys to perform their very best while looking just as good!

🐎 Introducing one of our Standing Stallions - Duck Dundee! 🐎

Duck Dundee, sired by the legendary Acres Destiny and out of the mare Duck Down under, carries a pedigree built for performance. His progeny are consistently athletic, smart and cowy, showing the trainability and grit needed to excel in the campdraft and cutting arenas. Already producing winners, his foals are stamping his natural ability, cow sense and competitve edge.

Duck Dundee will be standing at Maraboon Rural Vet Services from late October. And will be available for Fresh, Chilled and Frozen AI.

🦟 HEARTWORM MONTH 🦟

Prevention is easier than treatment!

Did you know heartworm is spread by mosquitoes and can cause serious, potentially life-threatening disease in dogs? It only takes one mozzie bite, which is why year-round prevention is so important.

Throughout October, we’re offering a complimentary heartworm test for dogs receiving their yearly heartworm injection on the SAME day as the heartworm test.

This offer is perfect if your dog:
🦟 Is starting yearly heartworm prevention
🦟 Is overdue for their heartworm injection and requires testing

One injection provides 12 months of heartworm protection, making it an easy way to keep your best mate covered all year round.

Available throughout October at Maraboon Vet Surgery Emerald, Blackwater and on our rural run days!

📞 Call 4987 6800 to book your dog’s appointment.

Don’t give heartworm a chance, prevention is the best protection.

❤️ CALLING ALL DOGGY HEROES! ❤️

We’re on the lookout for more amazing dogs to join our blood donor program and help us save the lives of dogs in need.

Just like people, dogs can require lifesaving blood transfusions following trauma, surgery or serious illness. Having our wonderful donor dogs ready to help can make all the difference when an emergency walks through our doors.

Your dog could be a hero if they are:
🩸 Healthy with a friendly temperament
🩸 Between 1–7 years old
🩸 25kg or over
🩸 Fully vaccinated
🩸 On regular heartworm prevention
🩸 Have never previously received a blood transfusion

And because our heroes deserve to be spoilt, each donor receives a Blood Donor Hero bandanna, certificate of recognition, $50 credit on their account, a yummy meal after donating and LOTS of cuddles from our nurses! 🥰

Think your dog has what it takes to be one of our Doggy Heroes? We’d love to hear from you!

Give the Maraboon Vet Surgery team a call on 4987 6800 to register your interest or find out more.

A small donation from them could mean everything to another family.

Houseplants can brighten your home… but some can be dangerous for your cat 🐱

Did you know that common plants like lilies, sago palms, daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, and autumn crocus can cause serious illness in cats?

If you have a curious feline at home, it's worth taking a few minutes to check which plants they can access, both inside and outside.

⚠️🌿 Signs of plant toxicity may include:
- Drooling
- Vomiting or diarrhoea
- Loss of appetite
- Lethargy
- Tremors or seizures
- Difficulty breathing
- Changes in gum colour
- Collapse

🚨 Lilies deserve a special mention, even small amounts of pollen or water from a vase can cause life-threatening kidney damage in cats.

If you think your cat has chewed or eaten a toxic plant, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Contact us on 4987 6800 or call the Australian Animal Poisons Helpline on 1300 869 738.

A little prevention goes a long way in keeping our feline friends safe.

🐾 Warmer days are the perfect time to tackle matted coats 🐾

As the warmer months approach, professional grooming can help prevent painful matting, reduce excess fur and keep your cat clean and comfortable. Our experienced veterinary nursing team offers lion clips, full clips, belly and hygiene clips, demoulting, bathing and more, tailored to your cat’s individual needs.

All grooming procedures require sedation to help keep your cat calm and safe. Pre-grooming blood testing is also required for cats aged seven years or older, or those with underlying health conditions.

🌼 The Itch That Won’t Quit! 🌼

Spring has arrived in Central Queensland and unfortunately, for some of our pets, so has allergy season!

If your dog or cat is scratching more than usual, constantly licking their paws, rubbing their face or suffering from recurring ear infections, allergies could be behind the itch. Environmental allergens, fleas, food and even some products that come into contact with the skin can all cause problems.

In this month’s blog, we cover common causes of pet allergies, signs to watch for, simple things you can do at home and the treatment options available to help keep itchy pets comfortable.

Don’t just put up with the itch! Early treatment can help prevent secondary skin and ear infections and make a big difference to your pet’s comfort.
