Our next Puppy Preschool class starts Tuesday, 8th September! If you have a puppy aged 10โ€“16 weeks that's ready to learn, play and socialise in a safe, supportive environment, we'd love to have you join us.

Give Your Senior Pet the Nutrition They Deserve ๐Ÿ’™

As our pets age, their nutritional needs change too. Feeding a diet specifically formulated for senior pets can make a real difference in helping them stay active, healthy and happy throughout their golden years. Senior diets provide balanced nutrition to help maintain a healthy weight while supporting joint, brain, heart and kidney health.

At Maraboon Vet Surgery, we proudly recommend Hill's Science Diet Senior Vitality for many of our senior patients. Developed by veterinarians and nutritionists, Senior Vitality is formulated to support the changes that come with ageing, helping maintain mobility, brain function, energy levels, healthy digestion, and a shiny skin and coat.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Benefits of a senior diet include:
- Supports healthy joints and mobility
- Helps maintain a healthy weight
- Supports brain, heart and kidney health
- Easy-to-digest nutrition
- Helps keep your pet active and enjoying life for years to come

Every pet ages differently, so choosing the right diet is important. If your dog or cat is 7 years or older, chat with our team about whether a senior diet is right for them.

๐Ÿ“… August is Senior Pet Month! Pop into the clinic to discuss your pet's nutrition and let us help keep your golden oldie feeling their very best!

An Important Change to Our After-Hours Service ๐Ÿพ

At Maraboon Animal Health, we are 100% committed to ALWAYS being there for you and your pets when a serious or urgent emergency occurs. That is not changing.

We are also committed to looking after the vets who make providing a 24/7 emergency service possible.

Over time, the number of non-urgent calls our on-call vets receive throughout the night has increased significantly. Many of these calls are understandably from worried owners simply asking, โ€œIs this an emergency, or can this safely wait until morning?โ€

These are very reasonable questions โ€” but the sheer volume of calls means our vets are frequently unable to properly switch off or rest when they are on call, even when no emergency ultimately needs to be seen.

So, from Monday 24 August, we are changing the way these calls are handled.

โ˜Ž๏ธ If your pet has a serious or urgent emergency, or is in significant pain or distress:
Please call our usual number and follow the prompts for an emergency. Our on-call veterinary team will continue to be there for you.

๐Ÿพ If you are unsure whether your pet needs emergency attention:
You will now have access to our veterinary triage partner, VetChat, where you can speak directly with an Australian-registered veterinarian.

The VetChat consultation fee is $59, payable directly to VetChat at the time of the consultation. This covers your veterinary triage consultation and advice.

The VetChat veterinarian may determine that your pet needs to attend our clinic for an after-hours examination. If this occurs, our normal after-hours consultation and treatment fees will apply in addition to the VetChat fee.

We genuinely understand how stressful it can be when something isnโ€™t right with your pet after hours. We donโ€™t want worried owners left with no one to ask. This system means you can still speak with a veterinarian and receive professional advice, while allowing our own vets to rest when they are not required for an emergency.

The reality is that with the sheer volume of non-emergency calls now coming through overnight, continuing our existing system is no longer sustainable. The alternative would eventually be to stop providing an after-hours service altogether โ€” and we absolutely do not want to do that.

We want to continue being there when our patients genuinely need us, while also looking after the people who make that possible.

We really appreciate your understanding and support as we make this change. โค๏ธ

Coming next week: We will also provide details about an affordable annual VetChat membership which includes unlimited after-hours triage consultations, meaning members wonโ€™t need to pay the $59 consultation fee each time they need advice.

What's happening behind the scenes when your pet isn't feeling well?

At Maraboon Vet Surgery, we offer a wide range of in-house diagnostic services, allowing our team to investigate illnesses quickly and accurately, often while your pet is still with us.

Our diagnostic capabilities include:
๐Ÿฉธ In-house Blood Testing
๐Ÿ”ฌ Cytology
๐Ÿ’ฉ Urine & Faecal Testing
๐Ÿฆด Digital Radiographs (X-Rays)
๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Ultrasound Imaging
๐Ÿ“ CT Scan Referrals when advanced imaging is required

Most blood testing is performed in-house, meaning we can often provide results the very same day. If a test needs to be sent to our trusted external laboratory, we generally receive results back within 48 hours. We also work closely with specialist referral centres and our external laboratory partners to ensure your pet receives the most accurate diagnosis and the best possible treatment plan.

Having these services available means faster answers, earlier diagnosis, and the ability to start the right treatment sooner, giving your pet the very best care when it matters most.

To book your pet's appointment or learn more about our diagnostic services, call our friendly team on 4987 6800.

๐ŸŒŸ Senior Patient of the Week ๐ŸŒŸ

This week's superstar is the beautiful Piper! ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿพ This gorgeous 12-year-old Border Collie recently gave us all quite a scare when she came in feeling very unwell recently.

After further investigation, Piper required a blood transfusion followed by a splenectomy (surgical removal of her spleen) as we had discovered a mass within her spleen that was causing internal bleeding. We were all anxiously awaiting her biopsy results, so you can imagine how relieved and excited we were when they came back benign! ๐Ÿ’œ

Piper is now feeling so much better, and we couldn't be happier for her and her family. The entire Maraboon Vet team absolutely adores this sweet girl, and seeing her back to her happy self is the best outcome we could have hoped for.

Wishing you many more happy adventures, Piper, we can't wait to see your beautiful face again! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’•

If you have a senior dog or cat, now is the perfect time to book them in and take advantage of our Senior Month promotion. Give our friendly team a call on 4987 6800 to book your pet or to find out more about our Senior Health Packages.

Help Your Senior Pet Thrive with 4CYTE!

As our pets get older, it's common to notice them slowing down, becoming stiff after a nap, or hesitating to jump into the car or climb the stairs. While we often put this down to "old age," these can be early signs of joint discomfort.

4CYTE is a daily joint health supplement designed to support healthy cartilage and joint function in both dogs and cats. Formulated with EPIITALIS, it helps maintain joint health, supports mobility, and may improve your pet's comfort and quality of life.

Why choose 4CYTE?
- Supports healthy joints and cartilage
- Helps reduce stiffness and maintain mobility
- Suitable for long-term daily use
- Available in easy-to-administer granules and liquid
- Made with natural ingredients

Whether your senior companion is starting to slow down or you're looking to support their joints before problems arise, 4CYTE can be an excellent addition to their daily routine.

Pop into Maraboon Vet Surgery and chat with our team about whether 4CYTE is right for your pet. Together, we can help keep your best friend active, comfortable, and enjoying life for years to come.

๐ŸšจPARVOVIRUS OUTBREAK IN EMERALD โ€“ PLEASE BE VIGILANT ๐Ÿšจ

We are urging all dog owners in Emerald and surrounding areas to be extra vigilant due to a current parvovirus outbreak in Emerald.

Parvovirus (Parvo) is a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening virus, particularly for puppies and dogs that are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated.

Please check that your dogโ€™s vaccinations are up to date!
Vaccination is one of the most important ways to protect your dog against Parvo. If you are unsure whether your dog is fully protected, please contact our team and we can help check their vaccination status.

Have a puppy?
We strongly recommend keeping puppies at home and away from public areas while they are completing their puppy vaccination course. Avoid dog parks, public walking areas, dams and other places where dogs frequently visit until your puppy is fully vaccinated and your veterinarian advises it is safe.

โš ๏ธ Know the signs of Parvo:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea, which may become bloody
- Lethargy or weakness
- Loss of appetite

If your dog develops any of these symptoms, please contact us immediately and let us know you are concerned about Parvo before bringing your dog into the clinic. This allows our team to take appropriate precautions to help protect other patients.

Parvo can survive in the environment for extended periods and can be spread on contaminated surfaces, shoes, clothing and other objects, so please take extra care during this outbreak.

๐Ÿ“ž If you have any concerns about your dog or would like to check their vaccination status, please contact Maraboon Vet Surgery on 4987 6800.

โœจ Meet Charley! โœจ

If you've visited the clinic recently, chances are you've been greeted by Charley's big smile! ๐Ÿ’™

Since joining our team, she's brought so much positivity, kindness and laughter to the clinic and we couldn't imagine the team without her!

When she's not caring for your furry family members, Charley loves keeping active and spending time with her two gorgeous dogs, Lola and Lady Bug.

We're so lucky to have Charley on our team! Next time you're in the clinic, be sure to say hello!
