šŸŒØļøWinter has a way of exposing the little thingsā„ļø

The dog that suddenly waits for help getting into the car. The cat that starts spending all day on the heated blanket. The pet that still seems ā€œfineā€ but just not quite themselves anymore.

A lot of people assume it’s simply old age. But sometimes it isn’t.

Dr Perin has written about chronic pain in older pets, the signs owners often brush off for too long and why colder weather can bring these issues to the surface, even though in itself it's not the cause.

Indy and Nurse Sylvia hit it off last week after Indy was admitted for radiographs. So much so, Indy hardly wanted to leave when her recheck rolled around 🄰

We’ll be talking a lot about pet dental health between now and August, so here’s another thing many owners don’t realise:

Dental disease can affect far more than your pet’s mouth.

In more advanced cases, oral infections may spread through the bloodstream and place stress on organs like the heart, liver and kidneys as well.

It’s one of the reasons regular dental care matters so much, even when pets still seem happy, active and otherwise healthy.

🐶First vet visits can be lots of fun!🄰

Brinney was all smiles at her first visit to the clinic. We were all a little bit obsessed with her and can’t wait to watch her grow into a big goofball.

Per her visit notes (and this is very important), she ā€˜LOVES treats and peanut butter’. Same Brinney, same.

A lot of bird owners genuinely think they’re feeding a healthy diet because seed has always been ā€œbird foodā€.

But many pet birds are effectively living on the equivalent of chips and chocolate.

The difficult part is that poor diet problems build slowly. Feather quality changes. Weight creeps up. The liver and heart work harder. Bones weaken. By the time birds look unwell, there can already be quite a lot going on underneath.

If your bird refuses pellets, picks out sunflower seeds first, or acts personally offended by vegetables, you’re definitely not alone. We see it all the time.

Here's why seed-heavy diets cause problems, how to transition birds onto healthier food, and the small changes that can make a huge difference over time. 🦜

Bringing a furry friend along for moral support is more common than you might think! 🐾

Having a familiar companion at a veterinary visit can help some pets feel more relaxed, safe, and comfortable during their appointment.

It can also be a great opportunity for the "support pet" to have a positive experience at the clinic. They get to explore the sights, sounds, and smells of the veterinary environment, enjoy plenty of treats and pats, and learn that visiting the vet isn't always something to worry about.

As a Fear Free clinic (https://eamc.vet/about/), we're always looking for ways to create positive associations with veterinary visits (and sometimes that includes a fun little photoshoot too!).

Have you ever brought one of your pets along to support another? We'd love to hear about it below!

Goodbye Nurse Jazz.

Today we say farewell to the wonderful Nurse Jazz. She has been an integral part of our team for years; always quiet and calm but always ready for whatever is thrown her way.

We will miss her smile, professionalism and friendly presence and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.

Thank you for all you’ve done, Jazz. We will miss you.

Did you know most pets will keep eating, playing and acting relatively normal even when their mouth is in pain?

That’s one of the reasons dental disease so frequently goes unnoticed until it becomes quite advanced.

From June to August, we’re offering discounted preventative dental care to help pick up issues earlier and keep pets more comfortable long term.

This includes:

🐾 $100 off preventative dental cleanings
🐾 Complimentary Oxyfresh water additive
🐾 Discounted SANOS dental sealant

Dental appointments each day are limited. Booking early is recommended.
