Struvite crystals in the bladder may sound harmless—but for male cats, they can be a life-threatening emergency.

These tiny crystals can clump together and block the urethra, making it impossible for your cat to urinate. Without quick treatment, this can lead to severe pain, kidney failure, or even death.

Watch for these warning signs:
🔸 Straining to urinate
🔸 Frequent litter box visits with little output
🔸 Crying out or discomfort while urinating
🔸 Blood in urine
🔸 Urinating outside the litter box
🔸 Lethargy or vomiting

The good news? With the right diet, hydration, and vet care, struvite crystals are treatable and preventable.

🐾Silliest reason I went to the vet is: Chased a herd of cows down a ridge, probably got kicked (and maybe had it coming)
🐾My worst habit is: Launching off cliffs, powering through rivers, and bulldozing any terrain like I'm indestructible (spoiler: I'm not—hello torn cruciate).
🐾My favourite place: Sprawled on the outdoor lounge, sun on my belly, supervising the peasants (aka family).

Dr. Nicole’s interest in pet oral health and dentistry sees her performing all sorts of procedures on Wednesdays; from cleanings to extractions, braces and restorations.

Here she is hard at work on Tilda who recently came in for a gingivectomy to treat gingival hyperplasia, which is genetic in Boxers.

Wildlife Reminder 🌿🐨🦇

This time of year our clinic experiences an influx of baby wildlife brought in by well-meaning members of the public.

While it's natural to want to help, not all young animals are orphaned or injured — many are simply waiting for their parents to return.

Before bringing wildlife to the clinic, please contact local wildlife rescue groups. They can provide guidance on whether intervention is necessary and what steps to take.

By working together, we can give these animals the best chance at life in the wild.

‼️Paralysis Ticks aren't seasonal. They're year long🚨.

We have had a patient brought to clinic this morning after their owners found a tick.

Please remember to keep your pets up to date on their monthly or yearly (call us for more information on this) tick preventatives. A small fee for these is significantly cheaper than tick treatment, which can be thousands of dollars, or sadly, the loss of your pet.
