Billabong Trail Rides was established in 1992 by Richard Acquisto. It operated from Chanter's Lane in East Trentham, riding through the Wombat State Forest. We moved to Echuca in May 1995, bringing the horses & starting the rides along the Murray River. In May 1998 the business moved onto 230 acres, 12 kms East of Echuca. To own a property that housed all of the horses, with room for growth in all areas. Not to mention, plenty of bush & river trails to ride along. Accommodation, arenas & lots of activities were built along the way to enhance visitors experiences. Due to the popularity of weddings on site & the number of religious schools attending camp, a bush chapel was built. As our business evolves we recognise the need for continual improvement. As many visitors, work experience students & even our employees say. It is a way of life"

This Saturday, 109 years ago, on 31 October 1917, about 800 men from the 4th and 12th Australian Light Horse Regiments assembled at Beersheba in Palestine to breach Ottoman trenches and seize the town’s vital wells before nightfall, securing water for thirsty men and horses.
Without cavalry sabres or lances, the Light Horsemen galloped across a six-kilometre open slope, wielding bayonets like swords.
The surprise attack succeeded as the riders leapt over trenches and overwhelmed Ottoman positions. Australian losses were 31 killed and 36 wounded; more than 700 Ottoman soldiers were captured.
Seizing the wells broke the Gaza–Beersheba line, clearing the way for the British advance and capture of Jerusalem.
