VALE ROB MACKENZIE
It is with incredible sadness that we acknowledge the passing of a stalwart of Gwenda Johnstone Racing, Rob MacKenzie.
Our journey with Rob commenced in the early 1990’s with tried horses such as Primo and Beat the Habit and then Rob primarily transitioned in breeding his own horses with a mare Be My Pride acquired from horse racing royalty Bill Stutt (another great supporter of our stables at the time).
Be My Pride a handy racehorse, turned out to be an outstanding broodmare leaving notable metropolitan winners in Shadowmaker, Shadowpark, I’m a Shadow and of course Shadoways who took both Gwenda Johnstone Racing and Rob to the pinnacle of racing, Group One success in the 2008 Goodwood Handicap at Morphettville.
Over the last 35 years or so, Rob would have raced at least 60 horses with our stable and through all the highs and lows Rob’s commitment to our stables was unwavering.
Rob started as a client but quickly grew into an unbreakable friendship and trusted confidant.
Without Rob’s and Bill Stutt’s unwavering support Gwenda Johnstone Racing would not be where it is today.
We mourn the loss of a great friend.
