Sally: “So… what exactly have you got in that bowl, Kane?” 👀🐷🖤

Kane loves dinner time, so if Sally is thinking about stealing some, she might need to proceed with caution. 😄

These two old sanctuary friends share something pretty special - the chance to simply grow old in peace.

At 14 years old, Sally has lived her entire life safe at sanctuary after her mum Sweety was rescued pregnant from the beef industry. Sweety had narrowly escaped slaughter after she couldn’t fit on the truck carrying the rest of her herd. Soon after arriving here, she gave birth to Sally - a little calf who would only ever know kindness, sunshine, friendship, and freedom.

Meanwhile Kane, nearly 13 now, is enjoying his slower-paced retirement between the barn, the dam, and carefully prepared meals designed to support pigs with the complex health challenges caused by selective breeding in the industry.

There’s something so lovely about seeing animals like Sally and Kane together. Curious. Comfortable. Relaxed. Safe enough to worry about the important things in life… like what might be hiding in someone else’s dinner bowl. 💚

Kane today. 🐷💚

Nearly 13 years old, living with heart disease, surviving emergency surgery a couple of years ago, and still finding joy in the simple things - a comfy barn, a cool dam, a good meal.

Kane has lived many lives in one. Born into a piggery, rescued to safety, then rehomed again after his beloved guardian Fiona became terminally ill. We promised Kane a forever home, and every day we’re grateful we get to love this beautiful old boy.

There was a time when Kane would wander every paddock at sanctuary and we’d have to go searching for him at dinner time. These days, age has slowed him down a little. You’ll usually find him resting peacefully in the barn or soaking happily in the water - still very much supervising sanctuary life in his own Kane way.

As one of the large white cross pigs bred by industry, Kane carries the lifelong impact of genetic modification designed for rapid growth. Caring for pigs like Kane means carefully managing diet, weight, mobility, and complex health needs so they can live not just longer lives, but happier and more comfortable ones too.

And Kane? He fully approves of the menu. 🍉🍎

We’re so excited to announce something brand new… 🔥🌱

On Sunday May 31st, we’ll be hosting the very first BBQ ever at Veganyumm in Everton Park!

Join us from 11am–2pm for a delicious afternoon of:
🌭 Vegan sausages
🌭 Hot dogs
🌭 Loaded “works” dogs
🍔 Burgers fresh off the grill

It’s the perfect excuse to catch up with friends, enjoy amazing food, and support rescued farm animals at the same time 💚

Every dollar raised from the BBQ goes directly towards caring for the animals at Farm Animal Rescue.

And of course, once you’ve finished your BBQ feast, you can head inside Veganyumm for their incredible cakes, pastries, desserts, and sweet treats 🤤

We don’t often mention rescued steer Arnold, whose story almost ended before it began.

He was part of a small group that didn’t fit on the slaughterhouse truck that day in 2013. Instead, Arnold was given a second chance - and he’s spent every day since living the life he was always meant to have.

These days, Arnold’s greatest loves are lush grass, relaxing with his sanctuary carers, wandering curiously into the sheep and goat barn to see what everyone’s up to, forest health checks (ok, he doesn't love those!) s, and spending quiet time with his friend Noah.

Watching Arnold now, calm, safe and completely himself, is a reminder that every life matters to the one living it. 🖤

Candi was found outside a slaughterhouse… her mum was inside. Then a car stopped - and someone chose to see her, to pick her up, to take her somewhere safe.

These days at the sanctuary, she brings energy and curiosity to everything.

Fences? Cleared in a single bound.
Cars? Still a favourite place to investigate.
Tables? Obviously made for goats.
People? They might have treats.

Candi is curious, bold, and just the right amount of cheeky.

But underneath all that mischief is something simple - she feels safe.

Safe enough to explore.
Safe enough to play.
Safe enough to walk right up to the camera like,
“Hi. What are we doing?”

And honestly… we’re lucky to be part of her story.

From loss… to a life full of adventure, curiosity, and joy.

Candi, you are something special. 💚

If peace had a sound… it might be this. 🐷💤

Kane, one of the sanctuary elders, fast asleep in his favourite spot down in the bottom barn - softly snoring away after lunch.

That gentle snore?
It’s more than just cute.

Kane has well and truly earned this kind of peace.

These days, you’ll find him rotating between his two favourite activities:
long, luxurious naps in the barn… and soaking in the dam.

Add in a steady supply of apples and watermelon (his absolute favourites), and you’ve got one very content pig.

There’s something special about the older animals here.

A calmness. A quiet presence.

Kane carries that with him.
