We see SOOO many overweight dogs every week, and often are told "I only feed him/her one chicken frame (or x chicken necks) a day" (They are usually also getting kibble & treats on top of this).
Below is some information on how many calories there are in a chicken frame, compared to how many a 30kg dog actually needs.
Chicken frames (and chicken necks) are incredibly energy dense, and in most cases provide far more calories than the dog needs. Add to this the fact that they are not well balanced nutritionally, and you will start to understand why we don't recommend them as a sole diet!
You may think you are saving money by using foods like this, but in reality, premium dog foods such as Hills, Eukanuba, Advance, Royal Canin etc can be very cost effective, and provide all the necessary nutrients in the correct amounts. If premium food is beyond your budget, then the higher quality supermarket/rural store brands such as Supercoat and Optimum are still a very good option, and easier on the back pocket!
**please note the prices below are calculated off current supermarket (chicken) and pet store (1 brand of premium food) prices**.
