🎆🐾 Fireworks Season Is Here 🐾🎆

While fireworks are fun for us, they can be frightening for our pets.

Here are some simple ways to help keep your pets calm and comfortable:

✨ Create a safe space
Set up a quiet, cosy area indoors with familiar bedding, toys, and blankets. Close curtains and doors to reduce noise and flashes.
If they aren’t able to stay inside please ensure they are wearing a collar with your contact details and that their microchip details are up to date!

🎵 Use background noise
Soft music, TV, or white noise can help mask sudden loud bangs.

🦴 Distractions help
Food puzzles, lick mats, or long-lasting treats can help redirect anxious energy and provide comfort. Pop into clinic to have a look at the range we have available!

🧘 Consider calming aids
Products like ThunderShirts as well as Adaptil (for dogs) and Feliway (for cats) can help take the edge off anxiety. These work best when started before fireworks begin, so plan ahead where possible. (Adaptil/feliway are stocked in clinic)

🧠 Stay calm and reassuring
Your pet looks to you for cues keep your voice calm and offer comfort without reinforcing fear.

💊 Plan ahead if needed
If your pet has a history of severe anxiety, chat to our team and book in for an appointment to discuss further treatment options.

Millpoint community we need your help! We have a baby bird that was handed in yesterday that needs to go to a wildlife hospital for ongoing care. None of the wildlife centers have available couriers and we are so busy caring for all the dogs and cats that we cannot spare a staff member to take the bird. 🐾 Alfie’s Near-Noodle Nuisance Be Gone! 🐾

Little Alfie came in recently to say goodbye to a substantial lipoma that had set up camp a little too close to his prepuce for comfort. 😅
His pawrents made the wise call to sort it out now, before it grew any bigger or started causing him real trouble. 👏💙

Alfie handled surgery like an absolute legend and woke up wondering why he suddenly felt lighter. 🙊

🌼 Spring is well and truly here and so are baby birds! 🐣
As the weather warms up, you may start spotting young birds on the ground. Before you scoop them up, here’s what you should know:

🟢 1. Not all baby birds need help!
Many “found” babies are actually fledglings which are young birds learning to fly. They often spend a day or two on the ground while their parents watch and feed them. If the bird is feathered, bright-eyed, and hopping around, it’s likely doing exactly what it should.

🟡 2. If it’s a nestling (very small, no feathers or only fuzz)…
It does need help.
➡️ Look for a nearby nest and gently place the baby back inside.
(Myth-buster: Parents will take their baby back even if you’ve touched it!)

🔵 3. If you can’t find the nest…
Create a small makeshift nest (a small basket or container with drainage holes lined with grass or tissues) and place it securely near where the baby was found. Parents will usually return.

🔴 4. If the bird is injured, cold, or the parents don’t return…
Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator ASAP!

🚫 Please don’t:
✖️ Give any food
✖️ Raise the bird yourself — it’s illegal without proper permits.

Spring is a busy season for wildlife but with a little understanding, we can give our feathered friends the best chance to thrive! 💙🕊️

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Wildlife facilities are currently overwhelmed and working far beyond their usual capacity. Many are run entirely by dedicated volunteers who are doing everything they can to care for the animals coming in. Please be patient, be understanding, and be kind.
