๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿพ Fireworks Season Is Here ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ†

While fireworks are fun for us, they can be frightening for our pets.

Here are some simple ways to help keep your pets calm and comfortable:

โœจ Create a safe space
Set up a quiet, cosy area indoors with familiar bedding, toys, and blankets. Close curtains and doors to reduce noise and flashes.
If they arenโ€™t able to stay inside please ensure they are wearing a collar with your contact details and that their microchip details are up to date!

๐ŸŽต Use background noise
Soft music, TV, or white noise can help mask sudden loud bangs.

๐Ÿฆด Distractions help
Food puzzles, lick mats, or long-lasting treats can help redirect anxious energy and provide comfort. Pop into clinic to have a look at the range we have available!

๐Ÿง˜ Consider calming aids
Products like ThunderShirts as well as Adaptil (for dogs) and Feliway (for cats) can help take the edge off anxiety. These work best when started before fireworks begin, so plan ahead where possible. (Adaptil/feliway are stocked in clinic)

๐Ÿง  Stay calm and reassuring
Your pet looks to you for cues keep your voice calm and offer comfort without reinforcing fear.

๐Ÿ’Š Plan ahead if needed
If your pet has a history of severe anxiety, chat to our team and book in for an appointment to discuss further treatment options.

We want your furry family members safe, calm, and supported as we welcome the new year ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑโœจ

Thank you to everybody that offered to help! Our hearts are extra warm and fuzzy tonight with the generosity of our community ๐Ÿ’™ Little one is now safe with wildlife carers.
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”
Millpoint community we need your help! We have a baby bird that was handed in yesterday that needs to go to a wildlife hospital for ongoing care. None of the wildlife centers have available couriers and we are so busy caring for all the dogs and cats that we cannot spare a staff member to take the bird. If you can help transfer this bird to WA Wildlife in Bibra Lake please give us a call ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐ŸŽ„ Christmas Treats Your Dog Should Skip ๐ŸŽ„

We know those puppy-dog eyes are hard to resistโ€ฆ but some festive favourites can be dangerous for our four-legged family members ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’”

๐ŸŽ Instead:
โœ”๏ธ Stick to pet-safe treats
โœ”๏ธ Keep scraps well out of reach (bin raids count too!)

If youโ€™re ever unsure, itโ€™s always safest to ask ๐Ÿ’™
Letโ€™s keep Christmas merry, bright and emergency-free ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ Alfieโ€™s Near-Noodle Nuisance Be Gone! ๐Ÿพ

Little Alfie came in recently to say goodbye to a substantial lipoma that had set up camp a little too close to his prepuce for comfort. ๐Ÿ˜…
His pawrents made the wise call to sort it out now, before it grew any bigger or started causing him real trouble. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™

Alfie handled surgery like an absolute legend and woke up wondering why he suddenly felt lighter. ๐Ÿ™Š

Rest up Alfie, that pesky lump wonโ€™t be cramping your style anymore! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถ

๐ŸŒผ Spring is well and truly here and so are baby birds! ๐Ÿฃ
As the weather warms up, you may start spotting young birds on the ground. Before you scoop them up, hereโ€™s what you should know:

๐ŸŸข 1. Not all baby birds need help!
Many โ€œfoundโ€ babies are actually fledglings which are young birds learning to fly. They often spend a day or two on the ground while their parents watch and feed them. If the bird is feathered, bright-eyed, and hopping around, itโ€™s likely doing exactly what it should.

๐ŸŸก 2. If itโ€™s a nestling (very small, no feathers or only fuzz)โ€ฆ
It does need help.
โžก๏ธ Look for a nearby nest and gently place the baby back inside.
(Myth-buster: Parents will take their baby back even if youโ€™ve touched it!)

๐Ÿ”ต 3. If you canโ€™t find the nestโ€ฆ
Create a small makeshift nest (a small basket or container with drainage holes lined with grass or tissues) and place it securely near where the baby was found. Parents will usually return.

๐Ÿ”ด 4. If the bird is injured, cold, or the parents donโ€™t returnโ€ฆ
Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator ASAP!

๐Ÿšซ Please donโ€™t:
โœ–๏ธ Give any food
โœ–๏ธ Raise the bird yourself โ€” itโ€™s illegal without proper permits.

Spring is a busy season for wildlife but with a little understanding, we can give our feathered friends the best chance to thrive! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Wildlife facilities are currently overwhelmed and working far beyond their usual capacity. Many are run entirely by dedicated volunteers who are doing everything they can to care for the animals coming in. Please be patient, be understanding, and be kind.
