That’s right, between our incredible Millpoint team we have a whopping 125+ years of combined experience! 🤯💙

Putting it into perspective, every dog in this picture represents ONE year of experience from our team! 🐶

That’s 125+ years of learning, growing, caring, comforting, problem-solving, late nights, early mornings, puppy cuddles, cat pats and, most importantly, loving what we do. 🐾

We may each bring different skills and experiences to the table, but together, we’re one pretty knowledgeable bunch!

Here’s to the pets we’ve cared for, the lessons we’ve learned and all the wonderful patients still to come. 💙

🧠 Wellness Tip Wednesday: Brain Games!

Whether its a rainy day or post op recovery, brain games are always a winner.
Did you know that 15 minutes of mental stimulation can tire your dog out as much as a 30 minute walk?
Best of all, you don't need expensive items to give their brain a workout!

Here are some easy DIY brain games using items you will already have at home:

The Towel Roll
How to play: Lay an old towel flat, scatter dry kibble across it, and roll it up tightly into a log. They can then sniff, nudge and dig their way to find the treats. Tying knots in the ends can increase the difficulty.

The Forage Box
How to play: Hide treats inside empty paper towel or toilet roll tubes (fold the ends closed), then toss them into a cardboard box filled with objects of your choice like crumpled news paper or leaves. Using their natural foraging instincts and scent work is a common denominator in these ideas!

Hide and Seek (Toys or Treats)
How to play: Hide smelly treats or your dog's favourite toy under couch cushions, behind open doors, or under a low table, then cue them to find it.

The DIY Puzzle Feeder
How to play: Take a clean, empty plastic bottle (remove the cap and plastic ring), cut a few kibble-sized holes along the sides or just leave it as the regular opening for a harder task. Fill the bottle with dry food and set it on the floor. By nudging and rolling the bottle with their nose and paws the kibble will pop out.

The Muffin Tin Game
How to play: Drop treats into a few cups of a 12-cup muffin pan, then cover all the cups with tennis balls. A mini hide and seek!

The Cup Shuffle
How to play: Set out three plastic cups upside down. Show your dog a treat, hide it under one cup, and gently shuffle them around. They must sniff out their reward!

HAPPY HUMP DAY 💙
In true Alice fashion, she’s found yet another way to brighten up our day! If you’ve visited us recently, you may have been lucky enough to hear our resident birdsong serenading the treatment area. However now she’s spreading even more smiles with her latest idea… Silly Scrub Day! 🎉

On the first Monday & Tuesday of each month, you’ll spot our team swapping their uniform for fun, colourful, and quirky scrubs to bring a few extra smiles to the clinic. 💙

Keep an eye out and let us know which silly scrubs are your favourite! 🐾

🐾 Feel Good Friday! 🐾

Meet the incredibly handsome Pumba… all 82 kg of him! 🤎

With Cavoodles reigning as our most popular patient breed, we’re pretty used to seeing pint-sized pups stroll through our doors. So when Pumba arrived, he definitely made an impression!

Some may question whether he’s actually a dog or a small horse… and we can’t say we blame them! 😂

Despite his enormous size, Pumba is an absolute sweetheart and was the best patient. We loved having this gentle giant visit the Millpoint team. Thanks for brightening our day Pumba! 💙🐾

🎉 Feel Good Friday! 🎉

Sweet Stella the French Bulldog recently underwent her sterilisation procedure, as well as an alarplasty to correct her stenotic nares (narrow nostrils), a common feature of brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS).

Dogs affected by BOAS have narrowed airways and must work much harder to breathe. This can lead to noisy breathing, exercise intolerance, overheating, disturbed sleep, and a reduced quality of life. Alarplasty helps widen the nostrils, improving airflow and making breathing easier and more comfortable.

Thankfully, Stella recovered beautifully from both procedures and is celebrating her new nose with a treat of her choice!💙🐾

Enrichment feeding - PART 1

Feeding enrichment is a simple way to keep your pet’s mind active while making mealtimes more rewarding. There are so many options instead of serving every meal in a bowl, this weeks highlight is to try using a LickiMat or KONG!

Why enrichment feeding?
🐶 Provides mental stimulation and helps prevent boredom.
🐾 Slows down fast eaters, which may aid digestion.
💙 Can help reduce stress and anxiety through licking and problem-solving.
🦴 Encourages natural foraging and chewing behaviours.
🏡 Great for keeping pets occupied while you’re busy or heading out.

💡 Easy ideas to try:
• Spread wet food, mashed pumpkin or xylitol-free peanut butter onto a LickiMat.
• Stuff a KONG with your pet’s regular food, wet food or healthy treats.
• Freeze them for an extra challenge on warm days or for longer-lasting enrichment.

Enrichment doesn’t have to be complicated to make a big difference.
