"I don't want rigid, artificial-looking portraits."

This is something that I hear regularly as a pet photographer when working in the studio!

Don't get me wrong, I love those classic portraits of pets. They are timeless. Authentic.

But let's be clear about something.

I'm not doing forced poses or awkward outfits. A studio backdrop just strips away the mess so your pet's actual personality has nowhere to hide, not the wind in the park, not the dirt on the trail, just them.

The quiet gaze. The tail mid wag. The face they pull right before they get the treat.

Look at these two absolute beauties! 🐾

Minnie and Tuna brought all the personality to the studio recently, and I couldn't resist pulling out one of my favorite props. There is just something about a vintage suitcase that makes for the perfect cozy nest for a couple of gorgeous dachshunds!

Packing light? Not an option when the luggage is this cute. Anyone up for a travel adventure with these two? 🧳🐶✈️

Meet Vincent! 🐾

Yep, just like Van Gogh, this handsome 1-year-old German Shepherd is missing an ear, but what he lacks in symmetry, he makes up for in pure, unadulterated heart. He brings absolute joy to his pawrents every single day, and honestly? It’s pretty easy to see why.

This shoot was a total dream. Studio sessions hold a special place in my heart—without the distractions of the outside world, it’s just us, some brilliant light, and a whole lot of personality. Being able to play with light and shape colour like this lets a pup’s true spirit shine through every frame.

Throwing it back to one of the most magical golden hours ever with Artimus! 📸✨

Calling Artimus "cute" feels like the understatement of the century. Just look at this handsome Cavoodle taking in the sunset over Lake Burley Griffin! Between that golden coat catching the last light of the day, the gentle lake breeze, and those big brown eyes... he completely stole the show.

"My dog could NEVER do a photo shoot..."

I hear this almost every week.

Is it because your dog's never sat still for anything in their life? Good. I don't want them to.

I'm not chasing a stiff sit-stay. I'm chasing the tilted head, the mid-zoomie grin, the half-second before they bolt after a bird. That's the good stuff. That's them.

So if your dog's idea of a photo shoot is three seconds of eye contact and then absolute chaos, we're going to get on just fine.

Your dog's personality is what makes them special.

Whether they're bouncing with excitement, chasing a ball or stopping for a quick cuddle, those are the moments that make the most meaningful photographs.

Sneak Peek: Hoodie 🐾

Meet Hoodie, the six-year-old German Shepherd 🐶 who stole the show during her session. She is an absolute divine lady, a total people dog, and just an all-round bundle of love 🌟.

I came prepared with my usual arsenal of squeakers and silly noises, but I learned pretty quickly that nothing competes with a good treat in Hoodie’s world. The squeakers didn't stand a chance!

Honestly, though, that laser-focused food motivation worked absolute magic. I just love how sharp and alert she looks here, perfectly framed against that warm, afternoon golden hour light glow.
