Today we headed out to Dog Direction Country Club in Mowbray to celebrate the incredible volunteers who are truly the glue that holds North Queensland Animal Rescue together.

Dog Direction country club is such a beautiful, spacious, and tranquil setting for dogs and their humans to enjoy. With plenty of room to run, explore, and relax, plus a fully fenced and secure environment, it’s the perfect safe space for everyone to have fun and unwind.

It was such a lovely day for both humans and dogs. There was plenty of running, swimming, playing, and making new friends. These special days are a wonderful reminder of the difference volunteers make—not just for the animals they help save, but for the community they’ve built around them.

As for Hank… he had the best time! By the end of the day he was so exhausted he could hardly make it back to the car. Safe to say he’ll be sleeping well tonight! 🐾💙

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who give their time, love, and dedication to animals in need. You are appreciated more than you know.

Hank, Rue and I made a trip up to Mareeba today to visit some friends. This is only the second long trip I’ve taken Hank on and he did a great job. He was a little bit fidgety on the Kuranda range but otherwise fine. They had a big run at the Mareeba dog park where we met a lovely dog named Maeson. Hank was such a good boy and played very nicely. Hank got a tour of our friends Motorhome and got all sorts of treats!!! The minute we got home he fell asleep! Big day for a little boy. 💙🐾

Hank giving me the side eye because I put a jacket on him! He bounced around like a newborn lamb for a bit now sits here very unimpressed!! Winter has come in fast in the last few days. 21C right now with a lowest of 18C! Now before you say “oh that’s lovely weather! Pretty much summer!” WE LIVE IN THE TROPICS! Winter is upon us!!!!

One thing that Hank really struggles with is separation anxiety. He needs to be by my side at all times. If I so much as walk out to the car, he’s at the window barking and losing his mind!

We’ve been working on it since day dot and, while it has improved a lot, it’s definitely been a very slow process.

But this week we had TWO huge breakthroughs!!!! 🎉🎉🎉

The first one happened while I was in the kitchen. Usually Hank is glued to his mat watching my every move… but this time he walked over to the couch, laid down and actually went to sleep!!!

For most people that probably sounds like a “so what?” moment — but for Hank, that is MASSIVE.

Then today while I was doing the floors, he started off following me from room to room like usual… but then he went outside and laid in the sun for 20 whole minutes before coming back in to check up on me. ☀️

I honestly think being Deaf increases his anxiety because he can’t hear me pottering around the house, so if he can’t see me, he worries. Or possibly just FOMO!!

These little moments might not seem like much to others, but they are huge milestones for him — and they give me hope that one day I might actually be able to do chores without this big white ears in the way 😂🤍

Every dog deserves a chance.
Not just the “easy” dogs. Not just the perfectly behaved puppies. Not just the ones who look or act a certain way.

Some dogs are deaf.
Some are anxious.
Some are older.
Some have been overlooked for far too long.

But those dogs still love deeply, trust fiercely, and change lives every single day.

On International Rescue Dog Day, we celebrate the dogs who were given a second chance… and the humans who chose to see their worth. 🤟🐾

Different, not less.
