I loved looking at all these pictures yesterday when putting this video together. It’s a pretty good representation of how things are around here. I’m happiest in my life with my doggy friends around me relaxing at home and going on adventures with them. They just become part of the family.

Just finishing up with my last few training clients. Taking no new clients.
The last 7 years of dog training has been so rewarding and a wonderful journey but I’m ready to hang my hat up and see what the future holds in store for me. For now I’ll just be thoroughly enjoying my boarders.

A big thank you to all the dog training friends I’ve made along the way. Your support has meant everything to me. Also of course much gratitude to all those who trained with me. I’ve loved watching you transform your dogs and create wonderful relationships with them.

Owners sometimes forget their dogs are living, breathing beings that need you to adjust to their emotional needs daily when we are talking about dysregulation and reactivity.

You will have to toggle daily by reading their body language if they need more decompression(long line walks), more space(from triggers), more adrenaline dumps(play).
Just like us, depending on what we are dealing with in our lives, our ability to cope with triggers is easier some days than others. It is our job to keep their needs met when they tell us they are struggling.

I hate doing this, but finding insurance in the last few years that let me keep the dogs upstairs with us and not completely separated has been impossible. Today my wonderful broker found me a company who would allow me to continue pet sitting in our home and have the dogs as part of the family.

Unfortunately it’s much more expensive for that allowance ,but honestly, I’m just grateful we found someone. By myself, I couldn’t find even one company willing to do it this year. I tried at least 10 insurance companies.

I don’t think people understand the ramifications of your house and contents insurance not being honoured because you pet sit other people’s dogs in your home. That ‘little side hustle’ has many consequences you may not be aware of. Many people would be absolutely oblivious to it.

This is completely apart from business insurance on top of that.

Because of the huge jump in insurance prices I’ve increased pet sitting fees by $5. The only reason I can keep it at $5 is because I have so many regulars who I hope I haven’t just priced out. Although looking at kennel prices these days I’m on par and your dogs would much rather be here for sure!

I know everyone is struggling and for that reason, any changes to pricing doesn’t come lightly.

Do you want a dog that regularly checks in with you and stays engaged rather than taking off when off lead?

Make time to play with your dog regularly. Aim for short, engaging play sessions at least twice a day. 3-5 min sessions. Games such as tug, fetch, hide-and-seek, or chasing a toy can help build your dog’s focus on you and make spending time together more rewarding.

Consistent, enjoyable play helps strengthen your bond and encourages your dog to stay.
