Dudley's derm story is a real team effort.

Under all that gorgeous Corgi fluff was a hot spot that had Dudley feeling sorry for himself. A treatment plan, a few days in a cone and a very unwelcome beach ban later, he came back to see us looking like a completely different dog

At his recheck, we found a little redness still hiding at the edges. So we adjusted the plan and added a medicated shampoo and leave-in conditioner made for his thick coat. That is exactly what rechecks are for.
A big thank you to Dudley's family for being such great teammates. Beach days are coming, mate. 🌊

If they are licking, look. 👀 Part the fur and check the skin. If something does not look right, give us a call or book in. Together, we will get them back to doing what they love

Cat of the week!
**WARNING MILD GRAPHIC CONTENT**

This gorgeous boy is Honey! 🧡🐾

Honey came to us earlier this year after straining to urinate. On examination, we found that his bladder was extremely distended and painful. Honey had a urinary blockage, a life-threatening medical emergency where a cat is unable to pass urine.

🐱 Did you know? Urinary blockages are most common in male cats because their urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) is narrower, making it easier for it to become obstructed.

🚨 Signs to watch out for include:
- Repeated trips to the litter tray with little or no urine produced
- Straining to urinate, which can sometimes be mistaken for constipation
- Crying or showing signs of pain when trying to urinate
- Licking around the ge***al area more than usual
- Vomiting, lethargy or loss of appetite in more advanced cases

A urinary blockage can quickly lead to dangerous changes in the body and can be life threatening if left untreated. If your cat is straining to urinate or producing little to no urine, please seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

Thankfully, Honey was successfully unblocked and, after a week-long stay in hospital, he made a full recovery! 🧡

We're so happy this gorgeous boy is doing well. Honey's story is an important reminder that recognising the signs early and seeking urgent veterinary attention can save lives. 🐾

Obesity is a common problem with all our pets, but cats can be especially stubborn and difficult to get weight off! Today, Dr Amy is sharing some tips and tricks to help your feline friends lose those couple of kilos so they can live a healthier, happier life 🐈‍⬛ 🐾

How can we keep our indoor cats happy?

🧸 Indoor enrichment. If your cat likes food, then food puzzles can be a good idea to keep them occupied and their brain stimulated.

🌳 Supervised outdoor exercise. You can harness train cats which can be a good way to get some vitamin D without the added stress of them wandering off.

🏠 Outdoor cat enclosures can also be a safe way for cats to have outdoor access. There are portable versions as well as permanent ones if you don’t have a big backyard

🐾 Interactive play. We encourage active play with your cat - feather and string toys, laser pointers, whatever gets them moving! This can also help get their natural hunting instincts out. It can also help to store toys when they aren’t in use and bring them back out when you’re playing - this keeps the toy fresh and new for your feline friends!

Did you know cats can get asthma?

Meet Blossom 🐈 - she is a 7yr old female domestic short hair cat who came to us for coughing. She had been coughing every day, and her dedicated owner decided to investigate a bit further.

Dr Amy performed a chest x-ray under some light sedation, and what we found were changes to her lungs that were consistent with feline asthma 🩻

We elected to trial her on medication for this - and it helped! She eventually transitioned onto a feline specific inhaler, and her coughing has improved dramatically.

We are so happy to have helped her, and she’s now breathing much better! 🐾

🐱 Cat Month Case of the Week: Meet Gizmo! ❤️

Gizmo is a nearly 7-year-old Birman who has been part of the MBV family since he was a kitten — and his kidney story is pretty remarkable.

In 2023, Gizmo became very unwell with vomiting, lethargy and severe dehydration. Blood tests showed extremely high kidney values, and after nine days of intensive hospital care, we discovered something unexpected…

👉 Gizmo was born with only one functioning kidney.

Despite this, he made an incredible recovery and went on to enjoy years of a happy, healthy life with the help of a prescription kidney diet, regular blood and urine testing, weight and blood pressure monitoring, and ongoing veterinary care.

Fast forward to 2026, and Gizmo recently returned to MBV after vomiting, refusing food and becoming lethargic. His kidney values had risen again, but thankfully, after 48 hours of hospitalization and supportive care, he was back home — and back to eating like his usual self! ❤️

Gizmo's story is an important reminder that cats can hide kidney disease incredibly well. Regular health checks, blood tests and urine testing can help us detect changes earlier and give your cat the best chance at a longer, healthier life.

A huge shoutout to Gizmo's wonderful owners for their dedication to his care — and to Gizmo for being such a brave little patient. 🐾❤️

🐱 OCTOBER IS CAT MONTH! 🐱

This month, we’re sharing some important tips to help keep our feline friends happy, healthy and comfortable as they get older. 🐾

Today, Dr Amy is talking all things Osteoarthritis (arthritis) 🦴

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition that causes wear and tear of the cartilage within the joints. Over time, this can lead to pain, stiffness and inflammation.

🐈‍⬛ The tricky thing is that our feline patients are masters at hiding pain! So, what should you look out for as your cat gets older?
