⚠️ PARALYSIS TICK ALERT ⚠️

We’ve recently seen cases of tick paralysis in our clinic, so now is an important time to make sure your pets are protected.

Paralysis ticks can cause rapidly progressive and potentially life-threatening illness, so know what to look out for:
- Weakness or wobbliness in the back legs
- Gagging, retching, coughing or difficulty swallowing or breathing
- Progressive weakness, collapse or inability to stand
- Changes in vocalisation, barks and meows

Tick paralysis is a preventable disease. It’s essential to use a reputable tick prevention to protect your pets + daily searches.

Found a tick? If you’re not confident removing it correctly, don’t pull at it! part of the tick may remain embedded in the skin if it isn’t completely removed. If you’re unsure, give us a call on (02) 48611444 and we can help.

✨Feel good Fridays ✨
One of the greatest privileges of working in veterinary medicine is witnessing the incredible bond between pets and the people who love them.
Recently, the handsome Ajax the German Shepherd and his mum, Rhianna, visited us for a second opinion. From the very beginning, our team worked closely with Rhianna, taking the time to thoroughly investigate Ajax's condition and discuss the options available to him.
When needed, we are fortunate to have access to a network of referral specialists, allowing us to work together to provide the best possible care for our patients. By collaborating with these specialists and keeping communication open, we can help families make informed decisions about their pet's health.
Rhianna shared that she appreciated the time our veterinarians took to explain Ajax’s condition and answer her questions. We know that navigating a pet's health concerns can be overwhelming, and we believe every client deserves to feel supported, informed and heard.
Thank you, Rhianna, for trusting us with Ajax's care and for sharing his progress with us. We can't wait to hear more updates from this special boy. 🐶❤️

🐾 Product Spotlight: Beransa 🐾

If your dog is slowing down due to arthritis, Beransa could help them get back to enjoying life.

Beransa is a monthly injectable treatment specifically designed to relieve the pain associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. It works differently to traditional pain medications by targeting Nerve Growth Factors (NGF)—a key protein involved in sending pain signals. By blocking these pain signals, Beransa helps reduce arthritis pain, improve mobility, and enhance your dog's overall quality of life.

Many owners notice their dogs becoming more comfortable, active, and happier after their first treatment!

If you think your dog may be suffering from arthritis, speak to our team at Bowral Veterinary Hospital to find out whether Beransa is the right option for them 🐾

Look at the curls on this gorgeous fellow! 🐶

Rusty, a gorgeous 3 year old Spoodle was the talk of the clinic the other day, and with curls like that, how could he not be!

Spoodles (Cocker Spaniel X Poodle), like many other poodle mixes, can have highly variable coat types. From tight curls to flat coats to everything in-between, sometimes it can be a bit of a guessing game to the kind of coat your furry friend will end up with.

Grooming is a big part of keeping these coats in tip top shape, so it is important to start their grooming journey when they're still young and learning the world. 🐾 This ensures that they can be comfortable and fear free when they have their baths and clips when they're adults!

Rusty was a very good boy for his visit, and was a superstar at sitting pretty for his photoshoot. We'll see you next time Rusty! 🐕👋

We bet you haven't seen this breed before! 🐕🐾

This cute little fellow named Moose is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever! This unusual breed is known for being more independent than the more typical Labrador Retriever, but still extremely loveable with their chosen families.

If you're looking for an outdoor companion to accompany you for hikes and long walks, then the Chesapeake Bay Retriever may be the one for you. They are known for loving the outdoors and exploring right alongside their family.

Due to being a retriever, they do often share their love for water as well! While Moose is still only young, it will be some time to know if this trait has come through with him.

Moose has already made himself right at home with his new family, and they love him right back!

Say hello to Jadah, a cheeky but extremely loveable 6 month old Labrador!🐶🐾

Jadah decided to pay us a visit after eating something she definitely should not have! On a lovely afternoon walk, Jadah decided that a dead rat looked like a delicious snack and quickly gobbled it down. Luckily, her attentive dad spotted her do this and gave us a call and brought her straight down to start the next step.

That next step for young Jadah was to make her vomit up that rat. We gave her an injection to induce vomiting, then the next thing to do was wait.

It wasn't long before this happy young lady threw up what we needed her to, her tail wagging the whole time. A little while later and Jadah was ready to head home, hopefully learning from her afternoon tea misadventure.

From Jadah and the staff here at Bowral Veterinary Hospital, this is a good reminder that yours pets can be very quick with food, so always ensures scraps are appropriately disposed of at home and to keep an eye on your pets when out and about! 🐾

Bowral Veterinary Hospital is sad to announce that Angela, Renee and Georgia will be leaving us to move on to the next stages in their lives.

Angela, who has been with BVH for 34 years, has helped to shape it into the clinic that it is today. She has always been our rock as our practice manager, someone who all the staff could go to for all our questions and help. As a frontline communicator to many of our clients over the years, we all hope that your next step in life is as fulfilling as possible!

Renee, our wonderful head vet nurse, has spent 16 years mentoring and looking over our nursing team. She has helped see us through many challenges, assisting our clients with questions and concerns, and being a supportive friend to us all. Her fun attitude at work has created a joyous work environment and a presence that will be sorely missed.

Georgia has been a fabulous addition to our team as a vet nurse, always happy to help and a wonderful communicator with our clients. She always brings a positive energy into work, and our patients have always benefitted from her kind personality.

Whilst we will all miss them terribly, we can only hope for the best for them in this next step. From all of our vets, vet nurses and our lovely clients, we want to thank you for all that you have contributed to our clinic. We wish you the best and good luck! 🐾

We get pets of all shapes and sizes here at Bowral Veterinary Hospital, including this family of adorable guinea pigs!

They came into our practice for s*xing and a general check over by one of our veterinarians, plus a cuddle or two with our nurses.
Having your guinea pigs s*xed when they're young is extremely important, as they can become capable of breeding when they're only a month old! So knowing the s*x of your pigs is vital to knowing if you will need to keep them separate from one another or not.

Have a guess yourself on whether or not these guinea pigs are male or female:
