There’s certainly an art in what I do as a barefoot trimmer. It’s knowing the exact points on where to stop and forming comfort for the horse (especially this pony) to not only stand on but to get back to running and all the activities she loves

This certainly isn’t an overnight fix but with the first trim done this pony is on her way to success! 🐎

The Hoof Co has quickly become one of my favourite additions to the hoof care kit! 🐎

Their products are easy to apply, stay put well and work with the hoof instead of against it.

The “Hoof Paste - Blue” was used over an area where a moist abscess had burst and a poultice wasn’t a viable option for the horse. It works great as a protective barrier in damp conditions where bacteria can easily thrive, keeping out those nasties while the hoof does its thing to heal. 💙

The “Beeswax Pink Balls” were packed into deeper crevices and around the frog where thrush infections were present. The zinc oxide helps harden the softer hoof tissue which traps bacteria whilst creating a protective barrier, stopping more moisture from entering the space. I love how mouldable it is, especially for staying in place and helping out between trims. 🩷

The Hoof Balm has been amazing for hydrating and protecting the outer hoof wall, especially on dry or environmentally stressed hooves. The kunzea oil is known for its natural antibacterial and soothing properties, while the oils and waxes help condition the hoof wall, support elasticity and reduce excessive drying and cracking. Plus it has such a fresh lemon scent without leaving a super greasy finish! 🍋

A drastic before and after like this tells a story.

Long intervals between trims allow distortion to build, flares to stretch, and balance to be lost. By the time we correct it, the hoof has already been under stress for weeks or months.

Regular trims aren’t a luxury. They’re essential for soundness, comfort, and long-term hoof health.

Your horse’s feet don’t stop growing. Their care shouldn’t stop either.

Today marks the completion of my two week intensive training in functional hoof care.

Over the past fortnight I have immersed myself in anatomy, biomechanics, pathology, assessment and hands on trimming. This experience has deepened my understanding of structure, movement and individual variation in every horse.

Correct hoof care is not about routine. It is about observation, feel and informed decision making.

I am now taking on new clients and look forward to working with owners who value thoughtful, education based hoof care with a focus on long term soundness and comfort.
