Animaland’s own Christmas miracle
Every Christmas season comes with it’s own sense of something special at the veterinary rooms,
like the one year when we actually had a reindeer-yes a real live reindeer , as patient on Christmas
eve at Animaland (had to pinch myself). So 2025 also had an xtra special miracle.........
Late November 2025 an eldery patient, “Jingles-” named so, as she had been rescued with her
sister “Mistletoe” by a longstanding and special client of ours- Lizel Swanepoel- over Christmas
time from Animaland , was hit by a car and was rushed in to our practice in a state of emergency-
the news was not good- she had a pelvis fracture and was badly bruised- hanging on by a thread-
Lizel, being the person she is, instructed us to try and save “Jingles” and so started a long and
complicated recovery-there were times that we thought we should let rather let “Jingles” go softly,
as we could see how she struggled with the shock and pain and the complications of the injury,
however her owner did not want to give up-”Jingles” ended up being in our hospital for a full five
weeks!
Bring in “Andy”......”Andy” was brought in to Animaland about 2 weeks before “Jingles” as a wild,
sick stray kitten- we could see her fighting spirit and into our isolation ward she went for treatment
and TLC-she recovered, but as hard as we tried, no one seemed to want to take her home.
Two weeks into “Jingles” treatment in our ICU ward, “Andy”, now healthy, escaped her cage and
found her way to “Jingles”, and so a beautiful story developed of a young lost soul and an old one,
encouriging each other .
We do believe that “Andy” was the push for “ Jingles” on her road to recovery. From there on, they
stayed together.
Overheard one day when Lizel and her friend came to visit “Jingles”-
“Friend, are you sure, you can take another cat?
Response: what can I do- “Andy” saved “Jingles” life”
So just after Christmas, “Jingles” was discharged to continue her road to recovery at home and yes-
“Andy” was by her side....
