Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness Centre At The Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness centre we provide easy access to some of Africa's wonderful wildlife and bird species. We are open to general public.

Focusing on African wildlife, Giraffe House aims to provide a place for people to enjoy the outdoors, whilst experiencing and learning about animals and why they are special. An important member of our team is Gerry, our hand reared giraffe. Did you know that giraffes can reach almost 6 m and are therefore the tallest land mammals on earth? Gerry is joined by some other animal friends that have be

en selected to form part of our wildlife educational programs. Education is our primary focus, and we cater from preschool and school groups to older groups. The wildlife education is presented in an informative wildlife conservation program suited for the individual group. Our interactive creepy crawly encounters are held at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 on weekends and during school holidays. It gives the visitor the opportunity to meet and hold some interesting creatures. Recreation and relaxation are important in today's busy world and Giraffe House offers the family an opportunity to spend affordable quality time together outdoors. Jungle gyms are available. There is no restaurant on the premises, but a refreshment kiosk supplies snacks and something to drink. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic basket. Please just take note of our no-alcohol policy. Giraffe House is also a fun kiddies’ party venue.

Even when it rains our ambassadors daily routines continue. They know their wet humans will still come and give them their time and attention. Enrichment exercises are still ongoing outside when the rain gives us a gap.

We have to keep them in shape, keep the body and mind moving.

Thereafter they go indoors for some down time and are kept warm and dry out of the elements.

We will be closed for Christmas Day but we look forward to your visits tomorrow.

Our team is busy working their Christmas magic right now making sure all of our Ambassadors are cleaned, fed and settled before they take a well deserved day off to spend with their families. A skeleton crew remains onsite to make sure everyone is cared for, for the rest of the day.

Not as tall as a Giraffe but this ambassador’s attitude makes up for it!🦒🐦‍⬛

Black crow superstitions vary widely, often associating them with death and bad luck, but also with wisdom, transformation, and good fortune depending on cultural context. 🐦‍⬛

We obviously agree with the latter. Our Charlie is extremely intelligent and incredibly quirky. He loves puzzle/game challenges. He solves them way too quickly so his keepers always need to be inventive to keep him enriched.🧩🐦‍⬛

Crows are highly intelligent birds, capable of problem-solving and even showing empathy.🐦‍⬛

He is now 10 years old. Isn’t he just handsome?!🐦‍⬛🥰

Pretzel enjoyed some Halloween inspired enrichment….how handsome is this boy🥰 He moves like a paid actor. You see how he times his strides - he knows when to start walking, he stops without a cue …he takes his time and makes sure we get all the right angles….very demure, very mindful, very cutesy🦒👏🏻
