Three cheers for Karen! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿด

Weโ€™re thrilled to celebrate Karen Bands, one of our incredible SARDA instructors, who has been appointed Gauteng Provincial Sports Coordinator for the Special Olympics! ๐ŸŒŸ

As a qualified SARDA Coach, SACA Provincial Coach Developer, and International Level 2 Equestrian Instructor, Karen has dedicated her career to transforming lives through equine therapy and education.

This year alone, sheโ€™s worked with pupils from Gateway School, Adelaide Tambo School for the Physically Challenged, and Randburg Clinic Special Education School, making a real difference in each learnerโ€™s journey.

We couldnโ€™t be prouder of this achievement and the impact she continues to make. ๐Ÿ’š

The Centre has a "waiting area" for youngsters about to mount up for their lesson.
Engineering students from IIE MSA, together with iThemba Projects, wanted to take on a project to benefit the young riders at the Centre.
And so the Train Project began.
As soon as the refurbishment of the Train was completed, the riders appreciated the bright colours and fresh look!

Even though our riding instructors may take time on holiday, the learners still attend for groundwork: safety around horses, grooming and learning to lead a horse.
Leading is empowering, as for a small person to be "in control" of a big animal gives them great confidence.

Our new girls are in the process of graduating from the School of Becoming a Therapy Horse and we are so proud of their achievements!
After becoming acclimatised to the environment and "scary things" at the Centre, they follow lessons without a rider.
Thereafter, we put a competent rider on and they follow lessons, getting accustomed to the toys used to develop the young riders' fine motor skills - more potentially scary things!
They also need to become comfortable with the unit: leader, rider and two side walkers - it's a lot for a horse to take in.
And today, Nova graduated to her first school learner rider and she was a star!

Today we bid a very sad farewell to Spirit, our wise matriarch, the Lady who gave so much.
Many have known and worked with her over the years: staff, volunteers and beneficiaries of her gentle warmth.

Gallop free with your friends. Go and show them you're still Boss Mare!
