Introducing our last lady for the month of August...is Louise
💙💚
Tell us a little about yourself...
I'm Louise, and I’m the Admin Support at Northdene Veterinary Clinic. I’m very proud to be part of a team that genuinely cares about our patients, their families and each other. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, I love being busy, and I’m happiest when I know I’ve made a difference — even if it’s just making someone’s day a little easier. ❤️
My motto:
“Get up, dress up and show up!” 💕
Because sometimes you don't have to feel ready — you just have to show up and give it your best.
My role at Northdene Veterinary Clinic?
I’m involved in just about everything behind the scenes — from administration and staff to clients, stock, systems and making sure the practice keeps running as smoothly as possible!
How long have you been part of the Northdene family?
I’ve been part of the Northdene family since February 2021, and it has become so much more than just a workplace to me. It really feels like family. 💙💚
What do you love most about your job?
Every day is different, and there is never a dull moment. I love being able to help people when they are worried about their pets and knowing that, in some small way, I can make a difficult situation easier for them. I also love being part of a team that works together because we all want the very best for our patients.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not at work?
Spending time with my husband and, of course, my fur babies! 🐾❤️ I love my Dachshunds and could quite happily spend the whole day spoiling them. I also enjoy relaxing, cooking, baking, reading and spending time at home.
What is your favourite animal and why?
Dogs — without a doubt! 🐶 They are loyal, loving, completely non-judgemental and they have this incredible ability to make you smile even on the toughest day.
And let's be honest... Dachshunds have a very special place in my heart! 😂❤️
If you could have any animal in the world as a pet, what would it be?
I think I would have to say a sloth! 🦥 They are adorable, peaceful and seem to have mastered the art of taking life slowly. Although I suspect I’d still end up spoiling it rotten!
What is your favourite snack or sweet treat?
Biltong & Chocolate
If you could see any animal in the wild, which one would you choose?
Manatee 🩵🌊
I would absolutely love to see a manatee in the wild. There is something incredibly special about these gentle, peaceful creatures. They are exceptionally calm and non-aggressive, and their slow, graceful movements make them fascinating to watch in their natural habitat.🩵🌊
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
The ability to go back in time — not to change who I am, but to have the chance to make different choices, prevent certain mistakes, and change things that could have turned out better.
I would go back and make better decisions where I didn't know better at the time, and perhaps change a few moments that had consequences far beyond what I could have imagined.
If I had that superpower, I wouldn't want to rewrite my whole life — just make a few changes for the better, knowing what I know now. ❤️
Which woman inspires you the most, and why?
My Mom & Late Gran. ❤️
They have always been an example of strength, love and resilience to me. They taught me to keep going even when things are difficult, to care deeply about the people around me and, most importantly, to never give up.
I think so much of who I am today comes from the woman who raised me. But I am also inspired by all the women in my family. Each of them, in their own way, has shown me strength, courage, love and resilience. I feel incredibly lucky to have been surrounded by such amazing women who have helped shape the person I am today. ❤️
They remind me that strength doesn't always have to be loud — sometimes it is simply getting up, carrying on, loving fiercely and never giving up.

🌸 Meet the Women of Northdene Veterinary Clinic 🌸

And today we get to meet Leanka!

Tell us a little about yourself...

🐾 What is your name and what is your role at Northdene Veterinary Clinic?
My name is Leanka, and I'm the receptionist at Northdene Veterinary Clinic. I also run my own pet grooming business, Scruffy2Fluffy, from the clinic.

🏥 How long have you been part of the Northdene family?
I've been part of the Northdene family for almost four years, and it truly feels like a second home.

❤️ What do you love most about your job?
The best part of my job is being able to make a difference, no matter how small. Whether it's comforting a worried owner, celebrating a pet's recovery, or simply making someone smile when they walk through the door, those moments remind me why I love what I do. Every animal has a story, and I'm grateful to be a small part of their journey.

🌿 What do you enjoy doing when you're not at work?
When I'm not at work, you'll usually find me spending time with my husband and our pets, grooming, or exploring nature. The Kruger National Park is one of my favourite places because it reminds me just how incredible and wild the natural world really is.

🦴 What is your favourite animal and why?
Without a doubt, the hyena. They've been misunderstood for so long, but when you learn about them, you discover just how intelligent, loyal, and important they are. I think they deserve far more appreciation than they get. To me, they look like oversized puppy dogs with huge personalities.

🐾 If you could have any animal in the world as a pet, what would it be?
A hyena, without hesitation. Not because they're unusual, but because I've always admired them for being exactly what they are, despite how the world often sees them.

🍫 What is your favourite snack or sweet treat?
Definitely chocolate and biltong!

🌍 If you could see any animal in the wild, which one would you choose?
A pangolin. They're one of the most endangered mammals on Earth, and so few people ever get the privilege of seeing one in the wild. Seeing one would be incredibly special, not just because they're rare, but because it would remind me why protecting wildlife matters so much.

✨ If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To communicate with animals. They can't tell us where it hurts or how they're're feeling, and being able to truly understand them would change the way we care for them forever.

🌷 Which woman inspires you the most, and why?
My mom. She's shown me what strength, compassion, and resilience truly look like. No matter what life has thrown at her, she's always put others first and encouraged me to keep going, work hard, and never lose my love for animals.

🐾💙 HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY! 💚🐾

Today we celebrate the ones who greet us like we’ve been gone for years… even if it’s only been five minutes! 😂🐶

The muddy paws.
The wagging tails.
The wet-nose kisses.
The stolen snacks. 🍗
The zoomies. 💨
The cuddles. ❤️

And, of course, the unconditional love that makes our dogs so incredibly special.
Our dogs aren't just pets — they are family. They are our best friends, our little shadows, our protectors, our comedians and sometimes… the actual bosses of the household! 👑🐾
At Northdene Veterinary Clinic, we feel incredibly privileged to care for your precious furry family members and to be part of their journey through all the happy moments, the challenging moments and everything in between.
Today, give your dog an extra cuddle, an extra treat and maybe forgive them for that one thing they've been doing that drives you crazy. 😉❤️
Happy National Dog Day to all our wonderful Northdene doggies! 🐶🎉

26/08/2026

Today the spotlight is on Sr Sphe! We are celebrating Woman's Month.

1. Tell us about yourself…
I’m Sphesihle Mthombeni (Sr Sphe), a vet nurse, and I’m involved in most aspects of the clinic, from assisting our vets with procedures, collecting and running samples, to caring for our patients and, most proudly, manning our Pet Slimmer Clinic.

2. How long have you been part of the Northdene Family?
I joined Northdene in January this year, so I’m still the newest member of the team! Even though my time here has been relatively short, my colleagues have been so warm and welcoming that it genuinely feels like I’ve been part of the family for much longer.

3. What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing change happen in real time. There’s something so satisfying about seeing the immediate difference we can make for our patients — dentals are probably my favourite example. Going from teeth covered in tartar to a beautiful, pearly white smile in one procedure is incredibly rewarding!

4. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
I enjoy both being indoors and outdoors, so I could never choose just one! I’m quite sociable and outgoing, but my social battery runs out and I need some alone time indoors to reboot. If I had to choose, though, I’d probably pick the outdoors — whether that’s spending a night out with friends, going hiking, watching rugby or trying out a new restaurant.

5. What is your favourite animal and why?
I don’t have one! I know that sounds impossible for someone in the veterinary industry, especially a nurse but I refuse to choose favourites. Every animal has something that makes them special.

6. If you could have any animal in the world as a pet, what would it be?
Definitely a ginger Maine C**n or a Norwegian Forest Cat. I have a serious soft spot for those big, fluffy cats!

7. What is your favourite snack or sweet treat?
Chips or dark chocolate. Ideally both, depending on the day!

8. If you could see any animal in the wild, which one would you choose?
An elephant! It’s the only one of the Big Five that I haven’t seen yet, and they always look absolutely enormous in photos and on TV. I’d love to see one in real life and experience just how big they actually are!

9. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I’d want the ability to stop or slow down ageing. Getting older makes me quite sad — and I don’t just mean people and animals. There are so many places, buildings and things that were perfectly well-functioning when I was growing up that have now become a shadow of what they once were. If I could take away some of that deterioration and keep people, animals and the things we love around us healthy for longer, I would.

10. Which woman inspires you the most and why?
My mom. She is the most selfless person I know and has shaped so much of the woman I am today. She has so much love for people, even for those who perhaps don’t deserve it, and she gives so much of herself without expecting anything in return. I have so much love and respect for her, and honestly, if I become even half the woman, she is, I’ll consider myself very lucky.

Women's Month at Northdene Veterinary Clinic

Meet Dr Laura Roux — Northdene Veterinary Clinic 💙💚
Tell us a little about yourself...
I’m Laura Roux, and I’ve been part of the Northdene Veterinary Clinic family since 2019. I’m a veterinarian, an animal lover, a keen photographer and, when I’m not at work, you’ll usually find me surrounded by my own furry family — three dogs, a cat and a horse! 🐶🐱🐴❤️

How long have you been part of the Northdene family?
I’ve been part of the Northdene family since 2019. 💙💚

What do you love most about your job?
Making sick animals feel better and seeing them reunited with their loving owners. There is nothing more rewarding than helping an animal feel well again and seeing the happiness on their owner’s face when they get to take them home. 🐾❤️

What do you enjoy doing when you're not at work?
I love spending time with my furry children — three dogs, a cat and a horse! 🐶🐶🐶🐱🐴 I’m also a keen photographer and enjoy capturing beautiful moments, especially when I’m outdoors.

What is your favourite animal and why?
Horses, without a doubt! 🐴 I just love their grace, beauty and intelligence. There is something truly special about them.

If you could have any animal in the world as a pet, what would it be?
A beautiful Lusitano horse. 🐴❤️ They are absolutely magnificent — elegant, intelligent and incredibly athletic.

What is your favourite snack or sweet treat?
Dark chocolate. 🍫❤️ Definitely my guilty pleasure!

If you could see any animal in the wild, which one would you choose?
This is a difficult one because I love them all! But if I had to choose, I’d say a leopard, a giraffe or an elephant. 🐆🦒🐘 Seeing any of these magnificent animals in the wild would be an unforgettable experience.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation! ✨ Imagine being able to get to absolutely any destination in the blink of an eye. No traffic, no airports and no long journeys — just p**f and you’re there! 😂

Which woman inspires you the most, and why?
Christine Stückelberger, a Swiss equestrian who competed in dressage at the Olympics and even won Olympic gold at the age of 72! 🐴❤️ She is such an inspiration and proof that age should never stop you from pursuing your passion and your dreams.
There is hope for me still! 🐴💕

💉🐶 PUPPY VACCINATIONS: PLEASE DON’T MISS THE NEXT ONE! 🐶💉

Your puppy may look happy, healthy and full of energy… but that doesn’t mean they are fully protected. 💙

One of the most important things you can do for your new puppy is to keep their vaccinations on track and complete the recommended puppy vaccination course.

🦠 Why is this so important?

Puppies are particularly vulnerable to serious infectious diseases such as Parvovirus, Distemper and Infectious Hepatitis. These diseases can make puppies extremely sick and, sadly, can sometimes be fatal.

💉 One vaccination does not necessarily mean your puppy is fully protected.

Puppies receive antibodies from their mother, which can help protect them when they are very young. However, these maternal antibodies gradually decrease — and they can also interfere with a vaccine working effectively.

That's why puppies need a series of vaccinations at the appropriate intervals to help build strong, reliable protection. 🛡️🐾

📅 Please don't delay your puppy's next vaccination.

We know life gets busy, reminders can be missed and appointments sometimes slip through the cracks. But when it comes to your puppy's vaccinations, staying on schedule really does matter.

If you're unsure whether your puppy is up to date, or you've missed a vaccination appointment, don't panic — give Northdene Veterinary Clinic a call and let us check your puppy's vaccination history and advise you on the next step. 💙💚

🐾 A little prevention today can make a BIG difference to your puppy's tomorrow.

💙💚 Protect them. Vaccinate them. Keep them on track.
