Who else has that Friday feeling?!
Dr Lynsey found this little guy hitching a ride to the good times in a cat's ear😬
If you notice your kitty scratching it's ears, shaking or tilting it's head, or any crusty discharge from the ears, rather bring them in for us to check them out.

Otherwise...roll on the weekend😎

Do we not have some of the cutest patients you've ever seen?! Tiny little Flapjack came in to see Dr Iuree for a health check and the all-important vaccines a little puppy needs. He was given the all clear and went home with a new outfit to keep warm in the chilly weather.

Emergency surgery on Friday afternoons!

On Friday Dr Iuree had to perform an emergency spay on a dog with a pyometra. Pyometra is considered a serious, potentially life threatening emergency where the uterus fills with bacteria and pus. A prompt diagnosis and quick treatment usually has a good prognosis.

Any unspayed/intact female dog can develop a pyometra but it is more common in middle-aged to older females who have had multiple heat cycles. Symptoms include fever, lack of appetite, lethargy, vomiting and collapse. If the cervix is open, a purulent, foul smelling discharge may be present. The most common treatment is fluids, antibiotics and emergency surgery to remove the uterus and ovaries ( an ovariohysterectomy or spay). A pyometra spay is more complicated than a regular, routine spay and a pus-filled uterus can weigh quite a few kilograms!

The patient has since been discharged to continue her recovery at home.

Cats and lilies do not mix, and can unfortunately have devasting consequences. If you suspect your cat has come in contact with lilies please seek urgent veterinary assistance.

While we love the view from our preproom; we know it is a little chilly out there!

We are heading into one of the first cold evenings of the season 🥶
Please bring your animals inside to keep them warm, or make sure they have adequate shelter outside to stay warm and protected from the elements. If you have any spare doggie blankets, beds, blankets or cat igloos consider reaching out to the shelters in your area as they will be relying on donations to keep the animals in their care nice and warm.

Going the extra mile❤️
Monika made sure little Luna, a new adoption to a family, was warm and felt safe and loved after she had to spend some time at the hospital recently. While an accurate diagnosis and treatment is so important, you can never forget the TLC🩷
