Yesterday, we did something different with the advanced class, doing retrieves through a tunnel.
They had to run through the tunnel to fetch their article and return back through it to their handler.
They were all absolutely amazing 🥳

A few more pics of the testing we did a few weeks back.
This test was basic heelwork, recall, sit down, and stands and stays, with a 90% pass mark required to qualify.
We are super proud of all our handlers who took part.
Congrats to all these champion teams.

It's a bit overdue, but we did testing a few weeks back.
This test was basic heelwork, recall, sit down, and stands and stays, with a 90% pass mark required to qualify.
While it sounds simple enough, nerves definitely get the better of you when you know someone is scoring your work.
We are super proud of all our handlers who took part.
Here is part 1 of some of the champion teams.

Mixing it up a bit with agility, jumping, and hoopers equipment for all shapes, sizes, and breeds.
This creates a great bond between handler and dog, is a fun activity, and also helps to give dogs confidence as they constantly try out new things and learn new equipment.
No dog is forced to do anything they don't want to do. They each learn at a different pace, and that is the pace we go at.
Making it a real fun experience for all.

Today was relay day for one of the classes.
You only find out how competitive some teams are when you say it is relay day!
It was an absolutely epic competition, with 4 teams of 4 dogs competing over a few rounds.
From some basic obedience exercises like circles and on the move recalls, to down and waits and then hopping and clapping for distractions.
The dogs were absolute champs, and the handlers weren't too bad themselves.
Was a jol and well done to all the teams 🏆

Happy dogs doing recalls with distractions. Dogs on one side, people and horses on the other.
Such good dogs.

It is always good to get your dog to work in different environments, not only for the exposure, but also for you to see what you need to focus on.
These dogs were really impressive today 👏🏻

Our Story

S.A. Dog Training College & Kennels (SADTC) is a dog training school that was established in 1984 by Chris and Christine Van Der Westhuizen, a couple dedicated to teaching others how to encourage the best from their dogs.

We noticed that there was a need for gentler training methods and a demand from dog owners for other courses besides obedience. In 1984, puppy socialising, agility, consultations and the like, were hardly known to South Africans!

SADTC brought these, and many more, courses into South Africa in a big way. Our dog school has led the way for humane methods of training, and have been pioneers for the many methods being used today.
