Can you believe I created Pawsome Friends 10 years ago!

People hear "socialization" and think it means dogs playing together -- you know, being social.

But socialization is not about dogs playing with other dogs.

It's easy to see why people have a hard time understanding what socialization means when it comes to dogs.

Looking at the root of the word, social, it makes sense that we interpret it as interacting (or playing) with other dogs because that's what it means when talking about human behavior.

But in reality, socialization involves introducing a dog to a wide variety of stimuli (sights, sounds, smells, experiences) in a positive and controlled manner.

Socialization is building positive associations with and being neutral when exposed to those stimuli. (An easy example: the vacuum cleaner.)

Socialization helps your dog to be comfortable with other animals, people, places, and activities.

The more you build those positive associations while exposing your dog to a variety of controlled situations, the more equipped and better prepared your dog is when he encounters those
environments or situations spontaneously throughout his life.

Socialization helps create a well-rounded dog that is more confident and comfortable in a variety of environments.

The sadness continues and our hearts are devastated yet again learning of the loss of Sammy.
He was always the life of the walk and there was never a dull moment with him. He will be dearly missed. Run free special boy. Our deepest condolences to his family.

Our Story

Dog training has been my passion since I was a child. I made it my chosen career and studied dog behaviour. I then went on to train Guide and Service dogs at the South African Guide dog association. I wanted to share my knowledge and help those who have problems with their dogs at home,so I started Pawsome Friends dog school. I believe that a well trained dog makes for a better relationship between the owner and dog, as well as a happier household.

My training is very much individual based and although the courses have set behaviours to learn I’m not as strict and confined as some other schools, I will happily assist in accommodating you to teach other behaviours so you and your dog benefit from training.

All the classes are kept small,max 5 in a class to ensure that all learn in a fair environment.

At the end of the day I want the dog and handler to be happy!
