JUDY & TILLY
Earlier this week we posted about two pregnant females, Tilly and Judy being spayed, thanks to the Good D.O.G. Fund from Animal-Kind International. Tilly went home, but Judy spent a few nights at the SPCA kennels for further meds. Judy missed Tilly and Tilly missed Judy!
This week a very happy Judy was returned home to an even happier Tilly!
Go well, sweet girls!

A HUGE SHOUT-OUT TO CARARA🙌
A very big 'thank you' to Carara for fixing so many potholes on the Grahamstown/Makhanda roads - many of the roads that our SPCA vehicle travels on everyday🛻. What a pleasure for our staff not to have to dodge potholes and so much gentler on our tyres!
Thank you to everyone who has assisted Carara with donations to this project - it is making a huge difference and is very much appreciated🤗. Contact [email protected] for further info.

🚨😬SENSITIVE PHOTOS OF EXTRACTED TEETH😬🚨
The owners of Potjie, the elderly Jack Russell, asked the SPCA Grahamstown to check on Potjie as she wasnt looking well and they were very worried. Inspector Lee took Potjie to the vet clinic for a diagnosis. Potjie had a severe infection in the sinuses caused by rotten teeth - lots of them!
Potjie wasn't exactly co-operative until she was anaesthetised and a number of teeth extracted (with an abscess here and there too)!
She returned to the SPCA kennels where she received meds and soft food💕.
Potjie was thrilled to go home ... minus a few teeth.
How wonderful to have the Good D.O.G. fund which allows us to make a life-saving difference! Thank you Animal-Kind International!
Potjie had already been spayed.🎉 .

TILLY & JUDY
Tilly and Judy were brought in for spaying, thanks to the Good D.O.G. Fund from Animal-Kind International. They were from the same household and were both pregnant😟.
Both were sterilized and Tilly went home, but Judy came back to the SPCA kennels for further meds.
Judy can't wait to go home, so get well soon, Judy! Tilly is waiting!

SIMBA NEUTERED .... FINALLY🎉
Simba was treated by the Good D.O.G. fund from Animal-Kind International at the end of May for an infection. His neutering was delayed until he was better. Simba returned to the vet in July for his scheduled neutering with new fight wounds and TVT🫩. We hope that his neutering will ease him into retiring from competing with other male dogs for females. Live peacefully and gently, Simba!
Sterilization saves lives!

🚨SENSITIVE CONTENT🚨
Monday was a day of heartbreak for our staff. Inspector Matthews was called out to a donkey that had fallen into an open drain in lower town. How long the donk had been there we don't know, but it didnt happen today.

The donkey's legs were bloodied from trying to get herself out, but then bloat set in.
When Inspector Lee Matthews saw her and spoke to her, she didn't even open her eyes.
Due to her condition, the donkey was humanely euthanased.
RIP sweet donk.

The Municipality are in the process of removing the body. Thank you to Roadside Rescue for being willing to help if needed.🙏

Our heartfelt thanks and respect to the SPCA staff who face heartbreaking and often horrific scenes in the course of protecting animals. Your strength and compassion do not go by unnoticed.
