SUNDAY NIGHT RESCUE
This donkey in Howse Street managed to get himself trapped between 2 walls and he couldn't climb back up from where he came in. Inspector Dingana was called out and with the help of Inspector Matthews they tried a ramp structure but the donkey refused to co-operate. With no other option they lifted the front of the donkey over the wall and managed to get him back onto flat ground. Thank you to both Inspectors Dingana and Matthews for coming out at night to rescue the donkey. Never a dull moment!

Thank you to.Roadside Rescue for assisting our staff with a tyre incident earlier this week. Also to Settler City Toyota for searching high and low to get us the best deal on a replacement rim. Thank you for helping us to get our animal rescue vehicle back on the road ... so that our staff could continue responding to the many calls for assistance.
We are in desperate need of another reliable vehicle to increase our reach in the huge area we respond to.

🚨SENSITIVE CONTENT, BUT PLEASE BE AWARE🚨
Is your fence really secure?
Over the past few weeks our Inspectorate team have been called to situations where dogs have been viciously attacked through fences by the neighbour's dogs. Big dogs, small dogs, cheeky dogs - there is no criteria.
Please check your fence. Make sure that your dog cannot stick its head through the fence, and if they can, please make a plan to cover the fence to ensure their safety and the safety of others. The head and neck injuries are horrific and some dogs have been pulled through fences and mauled to death.
Fortunately the dog in the photo was able to be treated🤗.
Please be responsible and take care of your animals.

SCOOTER IS NEUTERED🎉
Scooter has grown so much since he was treated by the Good D.O.G. fund in April for his injuries. Scooter was neutered this week by the second Good D.O.G. fund as all animals treated need to be sterilized. That's how it works!
Scooter had an undescended testicle so it wasn't a straightforward neuter, but most necessary.
Good to see you again, Scooter🤗!

CUTEY PIE, NXEBA
Nxeba's owner asked the SPCA Grahamstown to assist as Nxeba had managed to cut his leg quite badly. During surgery to stitch his wounds, Nxeba was neutered as well. He returned to the SPCA kennels wearing an Elizabethan collar and still managed to remove his stitches 3 times. After the 3rd occasion, it was decided to treat the cut as an open wound and Nxeba seemed to agree with the vet!
Nxeba finally went home at the end of Oct. Thank you to the Good D.O.G. fund from Animal-Kind International for making it possible to treat Nxeba.

MANUEL❤
Manuel was neutered as part of Project Amadoda funded by Animal-Kind International. He also received treatment for early stage TVT.
Manuel was the only sterilization last week as all others were postponed due to a shortage of staff and numerous calls for assistance. Our staff spent many hours following up on reports of displaced dogs as a result of the fireworks too. This places huge strain on our already limited resources - and something that could so easily have been avoided.

BRUNO HAS GONE HOME🎉
Bruno certainly looks a lot better than when our Inspectorate found him in October after being attacked by another dog. His neck and head were injured the most, but after veterinary care, hospitalisation, medication and a relatively long stay at the SPCA kennels, Bruno was finally ready to go home. Bruno was also neutered at the vet clinic. Thank you to the Good D.O.G. Fund from Animal-Kind International for making it possible for us to make a difference in Bruno's life. Stay safe, Bruno!🙏.

On Saturday evening Inspector Matthews was called out to an injured donkey in the township. Sadly the donk had to be humanely euthansed due to the damage to its leg. A very big thank you to Inspector Matthews for attending to this incident in the dark, as well as Vuyo from Hitec Security for accompanying her to the scene. Thank you, Hitec Security, for making yourselves available - we appreciate it very much.

THANK YOU🤗
To a most generous funder who paid for the repairs and upgrade to our lower block kennel gates. We are absolutely thrilled with the outcome - no protruding wires, gates that close securely and two reinforced gates for large breed dogs.
This is Phase 1 of Project Indawo Yethemba and the next phase entails replacing the broken roof beams and the torn shade cloth and painting.
Then Phase 3 ... a separate corridor leading to the exercise runs. We hope to accomplish this over time as funds are raised.
