Help! Storm Leaves Pets Freezing

Dear Animal Lovers,

The cold front has hit Cape Town with full force. The dogs and cats of Khayelitsha are struggling with every icy gust and every drop of rain. Yards are flooded, dogs knee deep in water.

Please make an urgent donation today so that we can help them.

At the moment our shelter is flooded and all dogs are kept in our hospital cages but blankets and jackets simply cannot dry fast enough to be washed and reused in time.

Right now, we urgently need:
• A new Speed Queen tumble dryer
• Warm blankets and jackets
• Funds to cover soaring electricity costs for heaters and tumble dryers

Little Rosie and Ben, two puppies in our shelter, rely on us to keep then warm while they wait for their forever homes. Your donation will help us wash and tumble dry their blankets and jackets, keep heaters running through the night, and ensure that they have warmth and comfort during this brutal winter.

Beyond our shelter walls, township pets are struggling too. Many dogs are living in flooded yards without proper shelter from the cold and rain. Teddy is one of them. While driving in the community searching for animals in distress, we found her stranded in a pool of rain water. She is now safely in our care.

⚠️ STORMY WEATHER WARNING ⚠️

With rough weather approaching, please take a few extra minutes to make sure your pets are safe, warm, and secure indoors.

Quick Safety Checklist:
🏡 Bring pets indoors before the storm starts
🚪 Check that gates, doors & windows are shut properly
🔒 Secure latches on gates and kennels
💧 Make sure your pets have fresh water & a cozy dry bed
🦴 Keep comfort toys or blankets nearby for anxious pups
⚡ Keep dogs away from electrical cords or flooded areas
📞 Ensure collars & ID tags are on in case they get frightened and escape
🚗 Avoid leaving pets outside or in vehicles during heavy rain & wind

Some dogs become very stressed during storms, so extra cuddles, calm reassurance, and keeping them close can make a huge difference.

Met ‘n swaar hart neem ons afskeid van ‘n baie spesiale woef, Shadow.

Ou Shadowtjie jy was nie net ‘n hond nie jy was baie spesiaal vir ons en jy was so uniek met jou oulike maniertjies. Jou mooi ogies en mooi geaardheid het almal se harte aangeraak.

Aan jou mamma,pappa, sussie en maat Kito ek is so ongelooflik jammer vir julle verlies. Daar is geen woorde wat die pyn kan wegneem nie, maar weet dat julle vir Shadow die mooiste lewe gegee het, vol liefde, sorg en geluk. Sy was werklik geseënd om julle te hê.

Shadow, jy los diep spore op ons harte wat vir altyd sal bly. Hardloop vry oor die reënboogbrug sonder pyn, net vrede en vreugde. 🌈🤍
