What a weekend for Team Groot Roosboom ✨

Our riders took on a 40km ride hosted by Western Cape Endurance Ride Association at Mistico this past weekend.

Well done to these riders and their horses:

We have two shelter camps available at our yard just 8kms from Durbanville in the beautiful wine valley. Horses spend their days out in large, natural herd camps, and come in during the late afternoon to be fed and settle for the night in sheltered camps. Scenic outride space. A hard lesson in helmet safety (literally!) 😅🐎

On Saturday, I took my young Arab gelding out for an endurance ride in Darling. Everything was going beautifully - we’d covered about 20 km at a steady walk and trot, enjoying the scenery and rhythm.

Then we hit a sandy patch and decided to pick up a short canter. Out of nowhere, my horse started bucking viciously - and before I knew it, I was flying over his head and landed hard, on my back… and my head.

By some miracle, I walked away with only a sore back and a few bruises. No concussion, not even a mild one. And I know exactly why: my helmet.

I landed squarely on my head, and my Uvex sport helmet took the full impact - no cracks, no damage, and it quite literally saved me from serious injury. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that I decided to invest in a good-quality, properly fitted helmet.

So here’s my takeaway:
👉 A good quality helmet is non-negotiable
👉 Don’t go for the cheap option - your safety is worth the investment
👉 Make sure it fits well and is certified for equestrian use

You can’t put a price on your life - or your peace of mind in the saddle. Ride safe, always. 🐎

Two outdoor shelter livery spots have opened up at our happy horse haven in the Durbanville Wine Valley!

We’re looking for riders who love long outrides, good company, and zero drama.

Here’s what we offer:
🌿 Large daytime grazing camps (mares & geldings separate)
🏇 Beautiful outrides across neighbouring farms
🏠 Big arena & lunge ring
👨‍🌾 Full-time grooms who feed twice a day to each horse’s needs

A few house rules:
❌ No stallions
❌ No Thoroughbreds (our rocky terrain isn’t their favourite)
✅ Only kind humans with great attitudes
