A little spring sunshine from Miggy! 🐷🌸

Happy Spring Day from Miggy and all of us at Pigs ’n’ Paws! 💕

Spring brings with it a beautiful reminder of new beginnings, fresh focus and renewed energy.

We hope this new season puts a little spring back in your step and brings brighter days, fresh opportunities and plenty of reasons to smile as we head into the rest of the year.

And really, who could start spring in a bad mood after seeing that little face? 🥹🐽

🐷🐾 There is so much that happens behind the scenes… 🐾🐷

We know that people often see our posts when we need help for the animals, but we also want you to see that we are constantly trying to find ways to bring in extra income ourselves.

One of the people who works incredibly hard to make this possible is our director, Leslie Giles. ❤️

Leslie takes care of all our markets.
Whether it is sunshine or rain, freezing cold or scorching hot, she gets up and goes.
Every single market means stock has to be ordered, packed, unpacked, displayed, packed up again and brought home afterwards — and then it all starts again for the next one.

She also takes care of our raffles and puts so much time and effort into finding ways to raise those extra funds that make such a difference to our animals.

And through all of it, she never complains. She simply keeps going. ❤️

We also want to thank Jacqui, who is always willing to help Leslie with the markets and raffles and does so much valuable work behind the scenes. Your support means a great deal to us.

But today we especially want to say…

Thank you for your dedication, your commitment, the long hours, the early mornings and all the work that so many people never get to see.
Thank you for continuing to show up for Pigs ’n’ Paws and, most importantly, for our animals.

Watching our horses being loaded and seeing them leave Pigs ’n’ Paws was even harder than we could ever have prepared ourselves for.

Our hearts are still broken.

They were part of our family, part of our everyday lives, part of Pigs ’n’ Paws.
Saying goodbye to them was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do.

But sometimes loving animals means making the decision that hurts you the most.

We had to put their needs before our own hearts.
Right now, we simply cannot give them everything they deserve, and holding onto them because we couldn't bear to say goodbye would not have been fair to them.

So we let them go. ❤️

A very special thank you once again to Highveld Horse Care Unit for being there when we needed help and for giving our horses the opportunity to continue their journey in caring hands.
Knowing they are safe and cared for makes this goodbye just a little easier to bear. ❤️🐴

And while we are still trying to come to terms with an emptier sanctuary, there is something else we desperately want to say…

Thank you.

Thank you to every person who sent us a message.
Thank you to everyone who cried with us.
Thank you to those who encouraged us when we felt completely defeated.
Thank you to every person who donates, sponsors monthly, shares our posts or helps when we put out a call for assistance.

You are the people holding Pigs ’n’ Paws up.

You are the reason we can get up tomorrow morning and continue caring for the animals who are still here and who still depend on us.

Having to let our horses go was a heartbreaking reminder that love alone cannot keep a sanctuary running.
Food, veterinary care, medication, bedding and the everyday needs of hundreds of animals are only possible because people choose to stand beside us.

It matters more than you will ever know.

We had to say goodbye to some of our family so that we could continue caring for the rest. 💔

But we are still here.
We are still fighting.
We are still getting up every day for them.

I honestly don't know how to write this without crying. 💔

We have to let our horses go.

And saying those words breaks my heart.

Next Tuesday, our horses will leave Pigs n Paws and go to Highveld Horse Care Unit.

We are so incredibly grateful that they are willing to take them. We know they will be cared for, loved and safe, and for that, we will forever be grateful. ❤️

But knowing that doesn't make this goodbye any easier.

These horses have been part of our journey. We have loved them, cared for them and fought for them. And having to let them go just so that we can survive and keep Pigs n Paws going is one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make .

I never imagined that one day we would have to make choices like this.

But the truth is, we are struggling financially. We have been fighting for a long time to keep going, and right now, this is what we have to do to give Pigs n Paws a chance to survive.

My heart is absolutely broken.

There will be tears. There will be sadness. And there will be a part of me that wonders how we got here.

But there is also gratitude.

Gratitude that these beautiful horses have somewhere safe to go. Gratitude for Highveld Horse Care Unit. And gratitude for every person who has stood beside Pigs n Paws and helped us keep going this far.

So next Tuesday, we will say goodbye.

And we will pray that one day, somehow, we will be in a position where we never have to make a decision like this again.

Please keep our horses in your prayers.

And please keep Pigs n Paws in your prayers too. 🙏❤️

Today, I'm just asking you to understand how much this goodbye hurts us.

🐷❤️ THIS LITTLE HELLO MEANS MORE THAN YOU THINK.

There really is no sweeter sound than a pot-bellied pig greeting someone they love. 🥹

Our handsome Frikkie had the sweetest little greeting for Antionnette, and you can hear just how happy he is to see her.

That beautiful piggy greeting says it all. I know you. I missed you. I’m so happy you’re here. 🐽💕

For Frikkie and more than 300 rescued animals, Pigs ’n’ Paws is home. It is the place where they are loved, cared for and given the chance to simply be themselves.

Our dream is to build a community of 500 Hearts of Hope, each contributing R200 or more every month towards the ongoing care of our animals.

❤️ A WOMAN WORTH CELEBRATING – ANTOINETTE Antionnette Steyn ❤️

With Women’s Day today, I want to give a very special shout-out to a woman who, in my eyes, is quite simply the backbone, heart and soul of Pigs n Paws Rescue. 🐷🐾

Antoinette Steyn is one of the directors of our sanctuary, but that title doesn’t come close to describing what she actually does.

Antoinette lives on the farm with the animals. She is there every single day — in the early mornings, late at night and even in the middle of the night when one of our animals needs her.

She feeds them. She cleans. She works alongside the staff. She gives medication, treats wounds, nurses sick animals and takes them to the vet. When one of them is really unwell, she brings them into her own home and cares for them around the clock.

She drives up and down constantly to fetch food, straw and everything these animals need — especially now, with the cold weather upon us. And when an animal reaches the end of its journey, she is the one who sits beside them, comforts them and holds them as they cross the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈💔

She has sacrificed so much of her own life to give these animals a better one.

And the truth is, without Antoinette, there would be no Pigs n Paws as we know it. The animals would not be where they are today. They would not receive the love, care, dedication and protection that she gives them every single day.

So today, I want to say something that perhaps we don't say often enough:

THANK YOU, Antoinette. ❤️

Thank you for the sleepless nights.
Thank you for the endless driving.
Thank you for the dirty hands, tired feet and long days.
Thank you for the tears.
Thank you for the laughter.
Thank you for every medication given, every wound treated and every frightened animal comforted.
Thank you for loving the animals that so many people have forgotten.

You are their safe place. You are their voice. You are their protector.

You are, without a doubt, the heroine of Pigs n Paws. 🦸‍♀️🐷❤️

This Women’s Day, I hope you know just how extraordinary you are and how deeply appreciated you are.

🌸 Happy Women’s Day to every woman who leads with kindness.

Some strength is found in quietly showing up, day after day, choosing compassion, even when no one is watching.

As Beauty peacefully enjoys a drink of water, we’re reminded that some of life’s most beautiful moments are also the simplest.

Today, we’d like to celebrate Antionnette Antionnette Steyn, one of the directors of Pigs ‘n’ Paws and the heart that keeps our sanctuary moving forward every single day. Her unwavering love for every animal, remarkable determination, and endless dedication help make Pigs ‘n’ Paws the safe haven it is for more than 300 rescued animals.

A little reminder that happiness can be wonderfully simple.

Mary and her two children, Sean and Biscuit, are enjoying a peaceful veggie feast with some very enthusiastic company. 🥕🐷🐶

You will spot Havoc and Max joining in, while some of our piggies happily share the moment too. It’s just another beautiful day at Pigs ‘n’ Paws, where different species become one big family. ❤️

Sometimes, the best way to recharge is to step away from the noise, breathe in the fresh country air, and spend time with animals who ask for nothing more than kindness.
