🚨🐾 URGENT WARNING: CANINE DISTEMPER OUTBREAK 🐾🚨

A Canine Distemper outbreak has been confirmed in our area. This highly contagious and potentially deadly virus is spreading rapidly between dogs, especially among unvaccinated pets.

❗ What is Canine Distemper?
Canine Distemper is a viral disease that attacks a dog’s respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems.

🦠 How It Spreads:

• Airborne: Through coughing and sneezing from infected dogs
• Direct contact: Nose-to-nose, licking, or close proximity
• Contaminated surfaces: Bowls, toys, leashes, bedding
• Humans can carry the virus on hands, clothes, or shoes

🐶 Symptoms to Watch For:

• Coughing, sneezing, nasal or eye discharge
• Fever, fatigue, loss of appetite
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Hardening of nose or paw pads
• Seizures, muscle twitching, loss of balance, or paralysis ( severe stages)

🧪💊 Diagnosis & Treatment:

Veterinarians diagnose canine distemper through clinical appearance and laboratory testing.
Unfortunately, there is no cure or specific treatment for canine distemper
There are also no antiviral drugs that are effective in treating the disease.
The mortality rate of the virus largely depends on the immune status of the infected dog . Puppies experience the highest mortality rate, where complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis are common.

🛡️ Preventing Canine Distemper:
The best prevention for canine distemper is routine vaccination
💉 A series of vaccinations are administered to puppies to increase the likelihood of building immunity when the immune system has not yet fully matured.

Make sure your dogs vaccinations are up to date .

Use caution when socializing puppies or unvaccinated dogs at parks or areas where dogs congregate.

🐾DRINGENDE WAARSKUWING: HONDE-SIEKTE UITBRAAK 🐾🚨

🐶 Simptome waarvoor jy moet oplet:

• Hoes, nies, neus- of oogafskeiding
• Koors, moegheid, geen eetlus
• Braking of diarree
• Verharding van die neuspunt of pote
• Bewegingsprobleme, spiertrekkings, aanvalle of verlamming in gevorderde stadiums

🧪💊 Diagnose & Behandeling:

Inenting is jou beste beskerming teen Honde-siekte

🌟Willow🌟

We wanted to share a bit of our journey with Willow, who recently had a close call after being bitten by a puff adder. 🐍❤️ It was a scary time, as the swelling made it difficult for him to breathe, but thanks to prompt treatment and antivenom, he’s on the road to recovery!

There’s been a shortage of antivenom, so we’re incredibly grateful that Willow received the care he needed in time.
He’s now home, taking it easy, and eating well! 🐾✨

🐾 Snake Awareness for Our Furry Friends 🐾

With the arrival of snake season, it’s crucial to keep our dogs safe from potential bites.

Here are some tips to protect your dogs:

-Keep an Eye on the Environment: Be aware of where you’re walking, especially in tall grass or rocky areas.
-Training: Teach your dog to stay close and respond to commands, especially in unfamiliar areas.
-Leash Your Dog: Keep your dog on a leash during walks in snake-prone areas to maintain control.
-Know the Signs: Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of snake bites: swelling, pain, lethargy, and difficulty breathing.

Let’s keep our furry friends safe this season! Share this post to spread awareness!

WORLD RABIES DAY 28 September 2024

Breaking boundaries
Together, against rabies.

Remember that any mammal can become infected with rabies – this includes pets, wildlife, livestock and humans. Wildlife species that can also host rabies include jackals, foxes, mongooses and recently, seals.

Animal rabies occurs in all nine provinces, with dog rabies cycles mainly concentrated in the eastern parts of the country (Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape provinces and the eastern Free State border with Lesotho).

Dogs and cats are often moved between provinces by travellers, workers, or holiday-goers, which can easily cause a spillover of rabies to any area if these animals are unvaccinated and incubating the disease.

If your dogs and cats are vaccinated against rabies, they form a protective barrier for your family and protect you. The same is true if everyone in your community ensures that their dogs and cats are vaccinated.
