Neem asseblief kennis dat daar ’n positiewe geval van bek- en klouseer in die Mbokweni-gebied, naby Wellington bevestig is.

Die staatveeartse het reeds die area afgesonder en begin ent.
Die omliggende areas word huidiglik streng gemonitor en deursoek vir enige ander gevalle.

Ons versoek dat almal uiters waaksaam sal wees en dat biosekuriteitsmaatreëls streng toegepas en op datum gehou word, insluitend maar nie beperk nie tot:

Beperking van onnodige diere- en voertuigbewegings

Behoorlike ontsmetting van voertuie, toerusting en skoene

Aandag aan enige kliniese tekens en tydige rapportering van verdagte gevalle

Verdere kommunikasie sal volg sodra meer betroubare of amptelike inligting beskikbaar is.

Is your dog protected against Canine Cough? 🐶🌬️
Canine Cough is a highly contagious respiratory infection that spreads quickly wherever dogs mix — kennels, doggy hotels, grooming salons, beaches, parks and holiday travel.

Common symptoms include a deep, honking cough, gagging/retching, nasal discharge and lower energy.

Treatment is usually symptomatic. Some dogs can become seriously ill and require more intense veterinary care. Should you suspect your pet has canine cough, contact our veterinary team and we’ll guide you.

What it protects against:
Bordetella bronchiseptica + Parainfluenza virus. Depending which brand it's administered via the intranasal route (sq**rt up the nose) or an injection under the skin — we’ll advise which your dog needs and whether a booster is due.
Like the human flu vaccine, dogs can still get infected, but symptoms are usually much milder, and the chance of serious illness is greatly reduced.

Why it matters over the holidays:
Higher exposure risk, busy public spaces, increased travel, and many kennels require it. Puppies, seniors and brachycephalics are especially vulnerable.

Important:
This is an additional vaccine, not part of the routine core vaccinations. Not sure when your dog last had theirs? We’re happy to check their records. 💚🐾

If kennels or catteries are fully booked, or if your pet is happier at home, a reputable pet sitter is an excellent option — especially for cats, senior pets, anxious pets or those with medical needs.
Choosing a reputable pet sitter:
Pick someone experienced with cats and dogs, reliable and communicative, able to give medication if needed, and willing to meet your pet beforehand.
Before you go, leave a clear written plan including:
• Vet + emergency hospital details
• Backup contacts
• House access (alarm codes, remotes, special instructions)
• Feeding routine, treats allowed, exercise rules
• Medication instructions (timing, doses, storage)
• Pet insurance details
• Emergency financial plan (pre-authorised payment, deposit arrangements, permission to sign treatment forms) - email us if you’d like this noted on your pet’s file
• Behaviour quirks (noise sensitivity, door-dashing, reactivity, hiding spots)
• Transport plan for emergencies — plus a Plan B if your sitter uses public transport
