It will be impossible to forget Cola whoโs shoplifting and Easter egg heist caught the attention our community.
As it turns out, Cola is the dog โnieceโ of Dr Sam.
Whilst we wonโt debate innocent vs guilty verdict , we did ask Dr Sam to talk about this special and delightful breed - Dachshundsโฆaka sausage dogs..aka wiener dogs and of course Daxies.

They are cute, smart, and very lovable, and they are known to be quite active. Their lifespan tends to range from 12 to 16 years old and they make great family companions.

Best things to keep in mind when thinking about bringing a Dachshund into the family:
Weight:
Daxies need to be kept lean as the fatter they are, the more problems they have.
Patella problems:
Daxies are prone to having knee caps that pop in and out which may need to be corrected surgically.
Heart issues:
Especially in their old age, Daxies can become prone to Mitral Valve disease and collapsing tracheas which need to be treated accordingly.
Teeth issues:
Dental problems are very common in this breed and at least once a year or every two years a dental procedure should be performed to prevent further dental disease.
And the obvious one:
Slipped discs (otherwise known as IVDD โ intervertebral disc disease.
This is not only common in the Dachshunds but also in the Pekingese, Jack Russel Terries and French Bull Dogs.
This is a disease that threatens the quality of life of the dog and almost always needs surgical intervention to correct.
Dachshunds were originally bred in Germany for hunting badgers and other burrowing animals.
Their short legs and long bodies were useful in this hunting style as they could fit in the burrows and were agile enough to succeed in their hunt.
But we have since moved on in modern times where these comical dogs are often caught dozing on couches, playing with children and are known for giving the side eye.
