We have a French bulldog handed in as a stray. No microchip we have scanned on different scanners and tripple checked!

We are withholding the gender as a form of ID.

Please note we will not be handing this dog over to anyone but the owner.

We understand the hype but this dog is a stray and will be handled ethically and legally.

We are not rehoming the dog or placing the dog in foster.

𝗔𝗡 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘

When your beloved pet is not feeling well, we do not advise that they be vaccinated.

And here's why:

Sick animals' immune system is already overloaded, trying to fight off the illness.

Whether it's something small, like being a bit off their food, or something more serious, like bloody diarrhoea, sick animals will not have the desired immune response to vaccines.

This means that the immune system will not create the antibodies needed to fight off the diseases we're vaccinating against, leaving the vaccine null and void.

This is both a waste of vaccine and a waste of money.

We gladly treat your animal - this is a priority and, once they've recovered from the illness, then we'll vaccinate them.

This will allow the immune system to recuperate, and then we'll have the anticipated response from the vaccine.

𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗶 & 𝗕𝗼𝗸𝘀𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝘀

Our dedicated ward councillor, Ward 28 CoE Mary Goby raised the alarm and asked us for assistance regarding dying geese and other sick bird life at the Homestead dam.

Unfortunately, we are not able to confirm the cause of deaths, and further testing is required, which is both costly and a risk to our avian patients.

We believe veterinary practices play a pivotal role in the community, we were able to call on the Department of Agriculture, who responded to assist us within minutes. It was such a positive interaction with a government department - we couldn't stop smiling!

State Veterinary Services graciously met us and addressed the areas of concern at Homestead dam, as well as a recently identified area by the spca_boksburg at the Weaver's Nest dam.

Sr. Natanya and Lucky assisted with sampling today and thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the knowledgeable departments.

Although we are a private animal hospital and cannot take in sick and ailing wildlife, we are happy to play a supportive role to those who need us.

Even if it does mean only making a telephone call.

Today was yet another reminder that "our town(s)" are what you make it, and we are fortunate to have dedicated and active ward councillors, SPCAs, and
rescue organizations that support the community daily.

Active residents who speak up and contact the relevant parties are vital. Please contact your local SPCA or registered wildlife rescue in events like these.

Thank you to the various departments for their time.
Department Director General Serage even took the time to assist us.

We are hopeful that the test results come back with a definitive answer.

⚠️ 𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗞 / 𝗗𝗬𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗜𝗥𝗗𝗦 - 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗶 & 𝗕𝗼𝗸𝘀𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴

We wish to inform our community of two important notices.

We are "wearing two hats" - one as a business and private animal hospital, and the other as serving members of this wonderful community.

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝟭: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀

We have made the important decision to no longer take in stray birds at our practice - from parrots to pigeons, doves, little fledglings etc we can no longer accept them.

We feel that it has become increasingly difficult to ensure biosecurity, and our patients need to be our priority.

There are wildlife organizations focusing on injured animals requiring rehabilitation, which have quarantine facilities. As much as we wish to assist, we see too many birds and parrots as patients, and the risk has outweighed the benefit.

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝟮: 𝗦𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗗𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝗺𝘀

We have been contacted by our DA Cllr Mary Goby to assist with the birds that have passed away and, more recently, the Boksburg SPCA. There seems to be various locations affected.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲

We are not able to take in any of these sick or deceased animals at our facility. Our role will only be advisory and as a courtesy to the community. Please kindly do not contact us about this issue, as we are already in contact with stakeholders.

To assist and guide our community leaders, we have had successful dealings with various government departments over the past few days, who have been extremely helpful.

We have put the various members in contact, and they will conduct sample testing. The Department of Agriculture, together with the state vet, has confirmed that there are no positive cases in our area currently for avian influenza. Currently, this was only detected in two production poultry farms.

We appreciate everyone's concern and expect this to take some time to resolve.

We will advise where we can. However, the health concerns of wild animals fall under the responsibility of the assigned government departments.

We need to allow them to guide and advise on the correct protocol. Once their guidance has been provided, we will then know how we can best assist.

We hope to provide much-needed assistance by linking the correct departments and parties over the next month.

𝗔 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀!

We're thrilled to share that our friends at Friend of the Rottweiler Rescue & Re-home South Africa have finally caught a break!

Over the past six months, they've faced immense pressure, caring for numerous retired working dogs and unwanted Rotties. Many of these dogs required not only sterilizations but also treatment for parasites, radiographs, and pain control.

With the tough economy affecting everyone, we've been concerned about their situation.

A miracle came in the form of SAINTs Animal Charity's birthday celebration! Rottie Rescue worked hard to get goods donated to the Saints shop, and as a result, their birthday payout helped bring their vet bill up to date.

Yes! We are grateful for the opportunity to be paid for our services, but more importantly, we're blessed to see our friends receive some much-needed relief.

A huge thank you to Viv and the dedicated team at Saints Animal Charity for their innovative ideas, fun auctions, and commitment to fundraising, even in challenging times.

Your hard work doesn't go unnoticed, and it makes a difference to many.

We're excited to announce that we've resumed sterilizing new dogs this week, and we're looking forward to sharing our own exciting initiative soon to get more donations to your store!

Well done and thank you! Many Birthday blessings.
