Yesterday, we honoured two incredible heroes K9 Red and K9 Khaos in the most beautiful memorial filled with love, respect, and deep gratitude ❤️

Families came to pay their last respects, honouring the brave souls who never gave up. The love and support from close friends, new friends, and fellow animal lovers touched me deeply. Your presence meant the world to me.

I’m also so deeply grateful for the incredible support we've received through the BackaBuddy campaign. Thanks to your generosity, we are *so close* to reaching our target. This will allow us to bring in two new dogs and give them the best training to carry forward the work Red and Khaos dedicated their lives to.

Some of you have been asking about what happened. It's painful to share, but I believe in being open. We suspected from the beginning that the armed robbery and poisoning may have been an inside job. We were offered free polygraphs and agreed. Sadly, the results pointed to our main suspect — someone who was trusted and who knew full well that my dogs were not aggressive in any way.

We have handed all the findings over to the police and are hoping for action. It is devastating to think someone who knew these dogs — who saw their gentle hearts — could plan something so cruel.

My heart is broken, but I will keep moving forward for Red and Khaos. Their mission continues. Their spirit lives on.

Memorial Doggy Walk & Pet Blessing

With heavy hearts, we invite you to join us as we honour the lives of our beloved dogs, K9 Red and K9 Khaos, who tragically lost their lives during an armed home invasion. Their courage, loyalty, and love will never be forgotten.

🗓️ Date: Saturday, 7th June
📍 Venue: Wanderland - 100 Homestead Road, Farmall, Johannesburg North - please bring your own camp chair
🎗️ Theme: A Doggy Walk in Honour of K9 Red & K9 Khaos

💛 After the walk, there will be a Pet Blessing at R50 per pet. Each blessed pet will receive a personalised certificate as a keepsake.

This day is about remembrance, healing, and celebrating the lives of two incredible souls who brought joy and protection to our home.

To our dear family, friends, clients, followers, and supporters

There are no words big enough to fully express how deeply touched I am by the outpouring of love we've received during this heartbreaking time. The tragic loss of my beloved K9 Red and K9 Khaos has left an unfillable void, but each message, every phone call, and all the generous donations have wrapped around me like a comforting hug.

You’ve stood with us in grief, walked beside us in love, and reminded me that we are not alone. In honour of my babies — my precious angels, my shadows, my heart — thank you.

Your kindness, prayers, and compassion have been a light in this dark time. I will never forget it.

WORKING DOGS OF THE PET DETECTIVE

When we lose our search dogs, the unbearable grief touches a place so deep within us there are no words to describe the pain and no place to put it. The bond we share with them as our family, best friend and working partner is likely one of the strongest bonds on earth. As lost pet detectives, we experience the entire spectrum of emotions including sharing in the grief of others we assist in locating their lost pet.

The bond is not exclusive to only our search dogs, but also with our dogs and other pets at home waiting for us to return from our work. They are "working dogs" too and they also have an important job. In our sadness of receiving the news of a lost pet who did not survive, the pet who was never found or in our joy of witnessing the reuniting of a lost pet with a tearful owner, our dogs are always waiting at home to comfort us in our sadness or celebrate our joy. They are all the working dogs of the pet detective.

We are sad when they leave our side. Down right I can't function sad. Where can we find any comfort? Here is what I chose to believe. Know that their job is not over! They are always in our hearts and by our side in spirit guiding us in our work and comforting our sadness. They are there when we give a recovery consultation to a lost pet owner. When we train a new search dog, their spirit is there through every training session. When we are on a search, their spirit is walking next to us. When that amazing creative capture idea immediately comes out of nowhere or our 6th sense tells us to look somewhere, that is our working dogs who have passed on continuing to inspire us. When we come home tired or want to give up because we are overwhelmed, our dogs are there in spirit to comfort our soul. We just have to "listen".

When we find a lost pet who did not survive, or one of our pets passes on, they are there to greet them on the other side to show them the ropes of their new world and to let them know it's OK. While death on earth can take them physically away from us, nothing can take their spirit away from us. They are energy that is with us for eternity. Let us honor their legacy and be thankful for having been so fortunate to share our lives with them. Let us not forget they helped lost pets, their owners and how they loved working and being with us.

This morning, we are going to the vet to say our final goodbyes. My heart is shattered into pieces that don't seem like they'll ever fit back together.

The house is Upside down from the burglary. Everything is broken or has been taken. My human kids are rattled and confused, grieving in their own innocent ways and I know I have to be strong for them. Somehow.

Khaos and Red...
I can’t make sense of this loss, not yet. But I promise you this! I will carry your legacy forward. I will keep helping the lost get found. I will do it with the same fire you gave me, with the same unstoppable drive you had every time we hit the ground.

This is not goodbye. This is THANK YOU—for the love, the purpose, the lessons, and the loyalty that will live on in every reunion I fight for.

Run free, my Khaos. Rest gently, my Red.
You will forever be the reason I keep going.

💔 With the Heaviest Heart 💔

On Friday morning, our lives changed forever. We were the victims of an armed home invasion—a terrifying ordeal that no one should ever have to experience. During this cruel act, our beloved dogs, K9 Red and K9 Khaos, were poisoned.

K9 Khaos was the face that started it all—the dog who inspired our journey into search and rescue. She paved the way with loyalty, strength, and love. When she retired, K9 Red proudly stepped into her pawprints. And oh, how he loved his job!

K9 Red wasn’t just my partner in the field. He was my colleague, my shadow, my ride-along buddy, my heart, and my whole world. From school demonstrations to life-saving missions, from tracking to tearful reunions—he was a true, real-life hero.

This loss is unbearable. The trauma of that day will haunt me for the rest of my life, and nothing will ever be the same again.

All I ask is this: wherever you are, please take a moment of silence to honour these two incredible souls. K9 Red and K9 Khaos were more than dogs—they were warriors, friends, and family.

Rest in peace, my precious children. Until we meet again.
