Diggy 😭💔🌈
Guys we lost Diggy. She was fine all morning the day after christmas, she laid down with her kiddos and that was it.

Diggy had just had her annual echo done, and her heart condition had appeared unchanged. We are having a necropsy performed due to the sudden and asymptomatic nature of her passing. If we come out with anything aside from her heart giving out, we will post to update so we can all learn together.

Our fosters are these guys parents. They love them so much, just as they do their own. "Ownership" means nothing. Diggy was Nicole's baby, and while we are grieving with her, she's suffering the most.

I am so thankful we let Diggy keep two of her kids so they still have each other.

The last week has been crushing for us. Jill had been working with an outreach bunny who didnt make it. Meghan spent her Xmas eve and Xmas day trying to save José, and then the day after, this.

We're all a mess right now but we will do what we always do. Because the bunnies still need us.

Digs- Run free and run fast and your babies will see you again one dayđŸ–€

We have the best friendsđŸ–€

We received the donations to cover a nebulizer for our friends at Hay Monsters! Thank you!

Now we would like to support Hay Monsters and Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary by providing them each an incubator.

The combined goal is $200. Thank you to our amazing followers who understand that helping rabbits doesn’t stop with the name on the vet bills! Every life saving tool, in the right hands, makes a difference.

💔heartbreaking update: we lost him, guys

It just wouldn't be a holiday if one of the rabbits wasn't trying to die!
José here is having a lot of trouble using his little face, his nose is congested to the point of making him almost unable to breathe. He stopped moving around and completely stopped eating.

Yesterday, Christmas eve, Meghan got him and Hulahoop from their foster home and rushed to the ER. They had him on oxygen between running tests. His lungs look okay and they recommend we get a CT when he is more stable. As we speak, Meghan is picking up an O2 chamber from (boy do i ever love teamwork)

We had the vet get deep nasal cultures on top of the xrays and start an antibiotic while we wait for labs to tell us what this wicked infection is.

Little man isn't out of the woods and his wife is so worried about him that she has also decided that food is trash and she is also requiring Meghan to syringe feed herđŸ„ș

Merry Christmas MeghanđŸ«
Anyway the emergency room bill yesterday was over $1000 because Christmas I guess. Any help at all, we would be so grateful for😭

Hay Monsters means family. Well, okay, obviously it doesn't really. But it does to me.

We are admittedly ✚choosey✚ about who adopts our bunnies, but once you're in, you're in. For the rest of that rabbit's life, you can count on us. Not only do you get a great bunny, you get new friendsđŸ˜…đŸ–€

Adopting a Hay Monster means lifelong support. It means there are no stupid questions. It means we are always going to help you help that bunny. If you know me, you know I am aggressively passionate about my bunnies, and my people. HMRS fosters, adopters, volunteers- all my people. Any bun in any one of our programs- my bunnies.

Our people can text me, message me, call me. They ask us questions about behavior, health, enrichment. Spam us with photos. Send us pics of p**p even😅 And if anything is ever off, I am right there on speakerphone in the room with the vet to make sure we ask all the right questions and get all the right tests. Jill is right there helping with meds or assessing a situation. Meghan is right there with supplies if you're in a tight situation.

Hay Monsters can always come back if need be, but more than that they are always supported. If you need us you know where to find us. Jill, Meghan and myself.

We're not the only rescue to offer this support, so if you would love a recommendation for rescues in your area, let me know. I know rabbit people all over.

And if you're a Detroiter, and this is the type of support you want when you adopt a new family member, here are some of our adoptable Monsters. Hit us up.đŸ„°

Look out it’s Miss Oatey!!!

She’s doing great, still gets her laser treatments and bosses our foster around. In case you can’t tell from her his photo, she a bougie little bun. With expensive taste! She requires her blankies and pets daily and will throw anything nearby if they are not up to her standards.

Look at those ears
 how can you say no?

Perfect PP’s. No not pe**ee; PP’s! Short for Pumpkin and Peach! AKA Pumps and Peachy AKA the cutest little fluffs AKA your future babies.
They refused to do X-Mas photos for me stating that they do not care for silly hooman holidays since they should be the focus of all hooman celebrations.
As you can see Pumpkin had to show off his excellent toy flipping attitude and was very proud of the show he gave. Peaches was the cheerleader 📣
They really are such sweet funny little buns and they can be adopted still!!! (Well after the hooman holidays of course)
You can apply by emailing us at [email protected] or donate to us to add to their toy obsession since that’s the only part of the holiday they enjoy.

Quark is here with a reminder for bun parents!
Behavioral changes are always a reason to see your vet. Rabbits are weird and different diseases can manifest in unexpected ways. If in doubt, ask your exotics vet to check things out.

Quark here has become, uh, easily excited by Ghost. And while she is beautiful, he hasn't exhibited this type of behavior the whole time they have been bonded. Hormonal changes can be an indicator of something underlying so we are seeing Dr Scott today.

Maybe he has just become a pervert in his old age..and poor Ghost will just have to accept him for who he is. But maybe we will find something we can treat and she can get some rest đŸ« đŸ˜†

Who wants to play a game??? Guess who is who!!!

Which one is Becky and which one is Stacy?

Guess right and you can have them!! Or just one
they’re both adoptable and perfect little ladies. They like each other as neighbors but don’t like each other as a companion.
They’d rather have YOU as a companion.

Yes we are on adoption freeze but these girls haven’t had any applications in months!!! They’re perfect though so I don’t understand how they aren’t gone already.

Butt poking day! đŸ«ŁđŸ’‰đŸ°

Hoggle and Jareth got their little hams poked today. They are big mad about it, but hey now they’re vaccinated against that nasty RHDV-2 virus.

RHDV-2 stands for “Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus 2” which is SUPER contagious and often fatal to bunnies. The best thing you can do to protect your fluffs is get this vaccine. It’s a two dose program that most exotic vets can offer. If you need references on which vets to use, feel free to DM us!

If you suspect that your rabbit has RHDV-2 immediately call your vet. Luckily no cases have been reported in Michigan (yet) but the MDARD strongly advises getting your pets vaccinated since it takes a full 35 days for full protection after the first vax dose.

Don’t feel too bad for Hoggle and Jareth, they got to listen to the first two chapters of Lord of the Rings on their commute.

Keep your fluffs healthy and safe, cuz we humans know how to!

Chris here!

Sorry for the week long absence
holidays are a crazy time of year for us. We hate to say no to adoptions, but we do not believe in gifting bunnies as pets for human holidays.

❄ So we are in an adoption freeze until the new year! ❄

Doesn’t mean you can’t adopt our cute little Cashmere Chris, it just means we gotta wait a little bit. He’s worth it though I promise!

Check out our story to see a how cute (and naughty) this little fluff can be.

(Also yes, I know he has a sore hock. We are giving him blankies and medical ointment for that)

Thank you for following us and loving bunnies as much as we do.
