Mowgli Update 🖤 last week I took Mowgli to the vet for a dental consult to assess how many of his teeth needed to be removed and to schedule the actual surgery date. After reviewing his bloodwork, the vet asked for me to have his blood drawn again before proceeding with dental surgery so that we could see if his liver values had improved since I’d been syringe feeding him his meals for the past 10 days. Unfortunately, his liver values had only gotten worse. For now we are having to postpone any dental surgery until we can get his liver situation figured out and he is currently on several different medications including oral meds and injectables. After a few weeks on the meds, we’ll draw bloodwork again and if his liver values have improved, we’ll move forward with his dental surgery (estimated at $700-$1500!) if the liver values are still off or have gotten worse once again, we will need to do an ultrasound on his liver to get more answers on what’s going on there (ultrasound would be $600). We did discuss the idea of a feeding tube, however Mowgli is a pretty active cat still and has never done well with collars or clothes, so I feel it would stress him out and there would be a concern of him ripping it out. He’d also need to be kept confined so that Otto doesn’t disturb the tube or chew on it, and that would also stress him out. So we are sticking with oral meds and syringe feeding for now (he’s even been eating kibble by his own choice and I’ve set up a camera to see how much of that he’s actually eating per day). While everything is still a big question mark with what’s going on with his liver, the medications I’ve been giving him the past couple days have definitely seemed to improve his mood, he’s still super snuggly and rolls on the carpet for belly rubs, and the fact that he’s been eating this past week when before he would run at the sight of food is a huge improvement. I will update you guys in a few weeks when we redo bloodwork. Thank you all so much for loving my boy with me. $5 Friday for Mowgli. Of course things all have to go wrong at the same time 😣 Mowgli had his annual senior bloodwork done earlier this week and his liver levels came back abnormal. The vets are concerned for hepatitis in cats, and further testing will need to be done. On top of that, he needs several of his teeth extracted and has stopped eating on his own out of fear of hurting his mouth, so I have been syringe feeding him over the past week. We have an appointment on Tuesday to have X-rays done and assess his mouth, and a follow up dental surgery will be scheduled. I really hate asking, because he is my personal pet and should be my sole responsibility, and I wish vet care wasn’t as expensive as it is, but I just spent nearly $500 for Clementine’s euthanasia and cremation, and Mowgli’s dental surgery alone is expected to cost anywhere from $600-$1500 depending on how many teeth need to come out. And that doesn’t include testing or medication for his liver. I can’t lose two cats in one month, I just can’t. If you are able to donate, even just a few dollars is so appreciated. She has passed and is no longer suffering 🧡 I am so sorry to share such a sad update. She was an angel and this was so sudden. My heart is broken.

Please keep my sweet Clementine in your thoughts and prayers. She has been struggling recently with megacolon, and while we were able to get it sorted a few weeks ago, it has come back for a vengeance and she is not doing well today. We are currently on our way to the vet to see what the next steps are for her. You all know I’m willing to do whatever it takes for my cats to live a good life, but that “whatever” part typically ends up being pretty costly. I wouldn’t ask unless it were something serious. They are scheduled for their neuter surgeries later this month and will be all ready for their forever home(s) shortly after that. ✨AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION✨ Indigo and Marshmallow (fka Celeste) are in need of a new home together. Unfortunately the child in their home has developed severe allergies to them and after trying several temporary fixes, the child’s health is getting worse and the family sadly need to say goodbye to their beloved cats. Per their current mom: “Indigo is the sweetest cat on this planet. She’s playful and cuddly and curious always into something. Marshmallow is the dinner alarm. If that food bowl has any space in it she will let you know. Loudly 😂. She likes to sleep on her back.” They just recently turned 3 years old and are great with kids and other cats, and had prior dog socialization when I fostered them as kittens. Today is a very special $5 Friday for Miss Mabel. She was abandoned at the shelter a couple of months ago and was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Right now she is being managed with daily medication, but her adoptive family is raising funds to have a shunt surgery done, to drain the excess fluid from her brain and hopefully allow her to live a long and healthy life. Everyone who has met Mabel has fallen absolutely in love with her. She is sweet, affectionate, loves to be held like a baby, is curious and explores everything and enjoys snuggling with other cats. She is the true definition of an angel and it would mean so much to me to know that this community of generous cat lovers that we’ve grown over the past several years could take part in making a difference for Mabel and her family.
