My daughter's first experience with a**l gland expression from her cat.

What are a**l glands? Most pet parents know and have experienced the stink of a**l gland secretions! A**l glands are scent marking glands that should express naturally when the pet defecates. These gland secrete a smelly fluid onto the pets stool. This is basically your pets "signature scent"!

That is what the dogs are smelling when they sniff each others hiney!

If these glands are not getting expressed naturally, due to softer stools or if your pet is overweight with excessive hiney fat, these a**l glands can become impacted and potentially abscess and rupture. That is VERY painful for your pet, as you can imagine!

Some pets need these glands expressed routinely, due to conformation of the glands or if your pet expresses these glands everytime they get excited! Of course ALWAYS consult your veterinarian, but you can do this on your own at home, if you wish!
