Our oldest boy has been working with the AmeriCorps the last few years in conjunction with the National Park Service, National Forest, and Bureau of Land Management doing conservation work in different states across the US. This weekend he is on his way home after serving in Vermont since May. Proud doesn't even begin to cover it, but this mom sure is looking forward to seeing his face again!

There's not much more satisfying then full feed bins, clean water buckets, fresh stalls, and full hay feeders. We took advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend to make a feed run, clean the algae out of the water buckets, and straighten things up around the barnyard. What a much needed weekend of beautiful weather. 🌿

FROST ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO 9 AM FRIDAY.

Here are a few Frost precautions/tips:

DURING THE FROST -
Cover plants:
Use cloth or frost fabric: Drape old sheets, blankets, towels, burlap, or commercial frost cloths over plants before dusk.

Create a frame: Use stakes, hoops, or tomato cages to keep the fabric off the plant's leaves to prevent freezing on contact and to allow space for heat to be trapped.

Secure the covers: Weigh down the edges of the covers with rocks or sandbags to trap ground heat effectively.

Use inverted containers: For smaller plants, you can invert buckets, pots, or coolers over them to create a mini-greenhouse.

Avoid plastic: Do not use plastic sheeting directly on plants, as it can create an impermeable layer that suffocates them and can also burn foliage.

AFTER THE FROST -
Remove covers during the day: Once temperatures rise above freezing and the danger has passed, remove the covers to prevent the plants from overheating.
