UPDATE: April 14th, 2026 at 11:20am. Luca was found in the town of Wytheville in a residential neighborhood several blocks from his last know location and has been returned to its owners.

Missing five year old male mini schnauzer named Luca.

Missing since Sunday April 12th, 2026.

Dog ran from the Red Roof Inn 220 Lithia Road, Wytheville, VA after being attacked by another dog.

Last sited around America's Best Value Inn 705 Chapman Rd. Wytheville, VA.

Collar came off the dog, but he is microchipped.

We would like to inform you that we are phasing out Nexgard, Nexgard Plus, and Heartgard, effective immediately.

What does this mean for you?
As our inventory decreases, we will begin transitioning to comparable products.

What will take their place?
Nexgard and Nexgard Plus will be replaced by Credelio and Credelio Quattro. In addition, Heartgard will be substituted with our existing products, Sentinel Spectrum or Milbeguard.

Credelio is a prescription flea and tick chew that effectively begins killing fleas and ticks just four hours after ingestion.
Credelio Quattro is a comprehensive product, offering flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, as well as treatment for internal parasites. It is similar to Nexgard Plus, with the key difference of also targeting tapeworms, a common internal parasite recognizable by its grain-of-rice appearance.

Virginia law prohibits leaving pets outside for too long when the temperature is consistently below 32°F or above 85°F.

This includes:
Leaving dogs chained or tethered outside
Leaving pets outside during severe weather warnings, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, tropical storms, or winter storms.

Here are some other things to know about cold weather animal laws in Virginia:

Shelter
Virginia law requires that pets have access to adequate shelter, which includes protection from the adverse effects of cold or heat. If you have an outdoor pet, you can add insulation to their shelter with straw or other bedding.

Food and water
Pets need more calories to stay warm in extreme cold, so you should check with your veterinarian about a proper diet. You should also check outside water sources frequently because they freeze quickly.

Tether length;
Tethers must be at least 15 feet long, or four times the length of the animal, whichever is greater.

Penalties
If you violate these laws, the owner could be arrested and face up to a year in jail.

Reporting
If you see an animal that is being tethered outside in violation of these laws, you can contact animal control (276)223-3300 or 911 for an animal in distress 24/7.

A general rule of thumb is that if it's too cold for you, it's probably too cold for your pet.

The Animal Control Officer can determin if the animal is well equipped to tolerate its environment, cold weather dogs who thrive in snow and frigid temperatures with ease.
