PetHealth PetTails: Meet Nya!🤩
Meet Nya, a sweet 10-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier! Nya came to PetHealth Urgent Care after her family noticed a small growth on her right front leg. To determine what it was, Dr. McMenemy performed an FNA, or fine needle aspirate, which involves using a tiny needle to collect a few cells from the growth for examination under a microscope. The results revealed it was a mast cell tumor, a common type of skin cancer in dogs. Mast cell tumors can vary in behavior, some are slow-growing, while others can be more aggressive, but early detection and treatment make a big difference.
Given the diagnosis, Dr. McMenemy recommended surgical removal of the growth. The mass was removed and sent for full histopathology to confirm the type and grade. Thankfully, it came back as a grade 2 tumor, which is considered intermediate and generally responds well to complete removal, giving Nya a very positive prognosis.
Nya is now at home recovering comfortably and has been enjoying all the extra love and snuggles from our Practice Manager, Maddy. Her family is thrilled to see her bouncing back so well.
At PetHealth Urgent Care, we perform a variety of surgical procedures helping pets like Nya stay healthy and happy.
