Okie has truly proved she is a real life unicorn!!🦄

She has taken everything in stride, has been so easy to start, and is coming along great.

She was hauled to her first trail ride this week and acted like an old pro, she crossed a variety of terrain, mud, narrow spaces, hills and rocks.

She’s been hauled to watch mounted shooting practices and is starting to ride around in the arena too. I think she is going to make a Ranch Versatility horse with her cool style, flashy look, and cute movement! 🙌

Weaning for us has usually worked best by watching behavior and then picking a weaning date based on when it feels right or it’s required - but I’d like to try the Farmer’s Almanac dates to see if that makes the transition even easier 🤔

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, timing can make all the difference. Aligning weaning with specific moon phases is believed to ease the transition and reduce stress—for both foal and mare. 🌙

It’s one of those old-school hacks that many horsemen and women swear by! 🐴

Gunner did a fabulous job today helping me teach Boomer how to lunge! 🙌

Everything is more fun with friends - and with Gunner moving out freely around the round pen it didn’t take Boomer long to figure it out.

Boomer is a new 2yr old c**t here to be started under saddle. Keep an eye out to watch all these c**ts progress 👏

𝐇𝐎𝐁𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐒 🙌🐴 - 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥!

First off, let’s start with what hobbles are: they are a tool used to limit a horses movement typically made from leather, rope, or synthetic materials, and they come in different styles depending on their purpose.

There are front leg hobbles, 3 legged hobbles, and sideline hobbles. For our purposes we use front leg hobbles (usually leather) as seen pictured 👍🏼

Hobbles can be used to allow horses to graze without wandering too far, can be used as a tool to teach them not to panic in a case of getting caught in something, or to teach patience / standing still without having to be tied up.

I like to do a quick lesson on hobbles for many reasons and I think they help teach a fabulous lesson that horses will take with them for life.

Jack here got to be hobbled while we rode and worked a few other horses all around him. He got to watch us, practice some patience and get comfortable with the other horses moving around him at different speeds. He has come such a long ways in his training and this is going to help him even more! 🐎
