☀️ Water & Summer Safety for Pets 🐾🌊

Summer adventures are more fun when everyone stays safe — including our pets!

Not all dogs are natural swimmers, and even strong swimmers can get into trouble around pools, lakes, or open water.

Here are a few important summer water safety reminders:

🏊 Always supervise pets around water
🚪 Secure pools with gates or barriers to help prevent unsupervised access
🦺 Consider a life jacket for boating or weak swimmers
🚫 Don’t let pets drink lake or pool water
🌿 Watch for blue-green algae at lakes and ponds
🔥 Rinse chlorine or lake water off after swimming
🐶 Flat-faced breeds can tire more quickly in water
💧 Keep fresh drinking water available to prevent dehydration

🌡️ Remember — temperatures rise quickly in Texas summers.
Even around water, pets can still overheat from high humidity, hot pavement, or prolonged outdoor activity.

Try to:
☀️ Avoid peak afternoon heat
🧊 Offer shade and cool rest breaks
🐾 Check pavement temperatures before walks
🚗 Never leave pets unattended in vehicles

💦 After swimming, make sure to dry your pet thoroughly — especially:
👂 Ears
🐾 Paw pads
🩷 Skin folds
🦴 Under collars/harnesses

Moisture trapped against the skin can contribute to:
• Ear infections
• Hot spots
• Skin irritation
• Yeast overgrowth

Some pets may also benefit from routine ear cleanings after frequent swimming — especially allergy-prone pets or floppy-eared breeds.

⚠️ Seek veterinary care immediately if your pet experiences:
• Excessive panting
• Trouble breathing
• Extreme fatigue
• Vomiting or diarrhea after swimming
• Disorientation
• Collapse

A safe summer is a fun summer! 🐾

🐾 Why Annual Bloodwork Matters

Pets are experts at hiding illness. By the time they show symptoms, they may already be pretty sick.

Annual bloodwork helps us catch problems EARLY — sometimes before your pet even feels sick.

Routine lab work can help monitor:
🩸 Kidney function
🩸 Liver health
🩸 Blood sugar
🩸 Infection/inflammation
🩸 Thyroid disease
🩸 Anemia

Early detection = more treatment options and often better outcomes for your pet. 💙

If your dog is:
👂 Shaking their head
👂 Scratching at their ears
👂 Smelling a little… funky
👂 Having redness or discharge

…it may be more than “just allergies.”

Ear infections can become painful quickly and chronic infections can lead to long-term damage if left untreated.

Some pets also benefit from routine ear cleanings to help prevent repeat infections.

📞 If you notice symptoms, schedule an exam so we can determine the cause and best treatment

Bad breath isn’t just “dog breath.” 👀

Dental disease can lead to pain, tooth loss, and even impact the heart and kidneys over time. The good news? Preventative cleanings make a HUGE difference.

✨ We’re currently offering $100 OFF dental procedures! ✨

If your pet has:
🦷 Bad breath
🦷 Red gums
🦷 Tartar buildup
🦷 Trouble chewing

…it may be time for a dental evaluation!

📞 Call us to schedule before spots fill up.

🐾 Prevention is protection! ☀️

Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and intestinal parasites are already active — and Texas weather means they stick around longer than most people think. Prevention is one of the easiest ways to keep your pets healthy and comfortable year-round.

Right now, we’re offering:
🎉 15% OFF when you purchase 6 months of:
• Simparica Trio for dogs
• Simparica for dogs
• Revolution Plus for cats
• ProHeart 12 for dogs

Heartworm disease, fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites can all be prevented with consistent protection — and prevention is always easier (and less expensive) than treatment.

Not sure which option is best for your pet? Our team would be happy to help you choose the right prevention plan based on your pet’s lifestyle and needs. 🐶🐱

Call us today to refill, schedule, or stock up during this quarter’s promotion!

☀️ Warmer weather is here, which means it’s time to start thinking about summer safety for your pets! 🐾

As temperatures rise, so do the risks of:
• Heat stroke
• Burned paw pads from hot pavement
• Dehydration
• Overheating during walks or outdoor play
• Anxiety from fireworks and holiday celebrations 🎆

A few reminders from your veterinary team:
💧 Always provide fresh water
🌳 Limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours
🐶 Watch for excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or lethargy
🐾 Test pavement with your hand before walks

If your pet struggles with fireworks or loud noises, now is the perfect time to schedule ahead for anti-anxiety medications or discuss calming options before the holiday rush.

Please don’t wait until the last minute — refill requests and appointments fill quickly around holidays!

❤️ Stay safe and enjoy the season,
– The Team at Thrive Wylie
