✨Senior Sunday Spotlight✨

Slinky is a 13 year old Dachshund who recently visited us for his dental procedure! His favorite things to do are sleeping and eating (who can blame him), and he was a perfect patient for us! 🐾

Dental disease, particularly periodontal disease, can be more prominent in small dogs compared to larger breeds. The smaller size of their mouths and jaws can lead to overcrowding, making it harder to clean and increasing the risk of plaque and tartar accumulation.

Regular dental checkups and cleaning by a veterinarian, as well as at-home oral hygiene, are crucial for preventing and managing dental disease! 🦷

✨Senior Sunday Spotlight✨

Meet Mimi, an 18 year old Domestic Short Hair kitty! 🐱 Despite her grumpy appearance due to her nap time being interrupted for a blood draw, she is a perfectly behaved patient! We think that at this age, she has earned the right to frown all she wants.
When Mimi is at home, her favorite things to do are playing in her water bowl like it’s a water park and acting like she hates her canine sister (but secretly snuggling with her when she’s asleep). 🩷

Making sure to check your kitty’s bloodwork is important primarily due to the prevalence of hyperthyroidism, a common hormonal disorder in older cats. 🐾
Early detection and management is crucial for these kitties to live long and healthy lives! Some symptoms of this condition may be unexplained weight loss, increased thirst and urination, and increased appetite.

Zoey is a 13 year old Lab Mix who recently came into the clinic to get some bloodwork done! Bloodwork is highly important for senior pets, as it assesses their internal health and helps to detect potential problems early, as they are more prone to developing chronic illnesses. 💉

Despite Zoey’s age, she is all smiles and excitement! 🐶 Zoey’s favorite things are popcorn and sleeping a lot - her parents say that she goes absolutely crazy over popcorn and will bark at them if they don’t give her any. 🍿

Miranda is the kind of person who makes every day brighter. Her kindness, warmth, and patience greet everyone who walks through our doors, and her sharp mind and innovative thinking make our clinic better in more ways than we can count.

She’s not just the first face people see—she’s the heart of our front office. Whether it’s keeping us organized, smoothing over the chaos, or finding clever ways to solve problems, Miranda does it all with calm confidence and a smile.

We know that someday her talents will take her far (and she deserves nothing less), but when that day comes, there will be a Miranda-shaped hole in our team that no one else could ever quite fill.

Daisy Duke is 16 years old and loves to snuggle, play with her “babies”, nap, and eat chicken anytime she can! 🐾 She also loves taking long walks around the backyard and neighborhood patrolling for squirrels!

Daisy recently visited us at Thrive Wylie for her annual physical exam and vaccine update (yes, even older pups need to keep up with their yearly vaccines!) 🩷
Age is just a number for Daisy Duke, she is a little diva that loves being the center of attention!
